JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - The Jambi City Police (Polresta Jambi) uncovered a total of 149 drug-related cases from January to July 2026. During the investigations, police arrested 257 suspects, comprising 237 men and 20 women.
Jambi Police Chief Kombes Pol. Ananto Herlambang disclosed the figures on Thursday, August 13, 2026, during a press conference on the handling of drug abuse cases in the first half of 2026 and the results of Operation Antik 2026 at the Satnarkoba Polresta Jambi building.
The press conference was also attended by the Head of the Jambi City Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, AKP Tito Al Hafezt; the Deputy Head of the Narcotics Investigation Unit, Iptu Joko Susilo; as well as the heads of the Propam Division and Public Relations Division of Polresta Jambi.
The Jambi Police Chief stressed that drug trafficking remains a serious threat to the younger generation and the resilience of society. According to him, drug abuse not only harms physical and mental health but can also trigger various other criminal offenses.
"As a manifestation of our commitment and responsibility to protect the public, the Satnarkoba Polresta Jambi units will continue to carry out law enforcement and prevention efforts consistently and comprehensively," Kombes Ananto said.
The Head of the Jambi City Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, AKP Tito Al Hafezt, said the situation in Jambi City requires special attention because the city serves as one of the transit routes for drug trafficking. The network connects various regions across Sumatra.
"Jambi is a transit city for drug trafficking. The routes run through Riau, Pekanbaru, North Sumatra, Medan, Aceh, Banda Aceh, South Sumatra, Palembang, Lampung and Bandar Lampung. Some of these cities and provinces use Jambi as a transit area," AKP Tito said during a discussion at the Satnarkoba office.
In addition to land routes, police are also monitoring waterways passing through Jambi. The city's geographical location along several waterways makes the Batanghari River one of the focuses of police surveillance.
"There is also a route through the Batanghari River because Jambi is surrounded by rivers," he said.
From January to July 2026, the Satnarkoba Polresta Jambi handled 149 police reports involving a total of 257 suspects. Of these, 49 suspects were identified as drug kingpins, 109 as dealers and 99 as users.
Police also seized various items of evidence during the investigations. These included 3,564.79 grams of methamphetamine, 129.37 grams of cannabis, 2,247.52 grams of ecstasy pills or 5,447½ tablets, as well as etomidate in 20 refill containers containing a total of 15.6 milliliters.
Polresta Jambi estimated that the police operations during this period helped protect a total of 23,808 people from the dangers of drug abuse.
Polresta Jambi also presented an update on the handling of evidence seized in the cases that had been uncovered. Police handed over some of the evidence to the public prosecutor as part of the second stage of the legal process.
Evidence already handed over at this stage included 780.44 grams of methamphetamine, 11.15 grams of cannabis and 35.68 grams of ecstasy, equivalent to 111½ tablets.
Meanwhile, police destroyed some of the seized evidence on May 5, 2026. The destroyed evidence consisted of 2,483.16 grams of methamphetamine and 2,101.71 grams of ecstasy, equivalent to a total of 5,131 tablets.
Other evidence remains under further processing. This includes 301.19 grams of methamphetamine, 118.22 grams of cannabis, 110.13 grams of ecstasy or 205 tablets, as well as 20 refill containers of etomidate with a total volume of 15.6 milliliters.
The series of investigations shows that police are not only targeting drug users but are also determining the roles of suspects based on their respective involvement in drug trafficking networks.
In addition to the cases uncovered during the first half of 2026, Polresta Jambi also recorded results from Operation Antik 2026, which was conducted for 20 days from July 7 to July 27, 2026.
During the operation, police uncovered 34 cases, exceeding the initial target of 10 cases. The operation therefore resulted in 24 additional cases being uncovered beyond the original target.
A total of 60 suspects were arrested in the 34 cases, comprising 49 men and 11 women. Based on their respective roles, eight suspects were identified as drug kingpins, 26 as dealers and another 26 as users.
As evidence during Operation Antik 2026, police also seized 117.28 grams of methamphetamine, 15.22 grams of cannabis and 17.64 grams of ecstasy, equivalent to 40 tablets.
Polresta Jambi estimated that the cases uncovered during the operation helped protect 687 people from the dangers of drug abuse.
The Jambi Police Chief stressed that the police achievements in uncovering drug-related crimes during the first half of the year and Operation Antik 2026 could not be separated from public support. Cooperation with various relevant agencies has also been an important part of efforts to curb drug trafficking within the jurisdiction of Polresta Jambi.
He called on the people of Jambi City to work together to protect their surroundings and fight drug trafficking and abuse. Residents were also urged to immediately report any activities related to drug offenses or disturbances to public security and order.
"I appeal to all people in Jambi to work together to protect our surroundings from the dangers of drugs. If you become aware of a crime or a disturbance to public security and order, immediately report it to the police through the 110 call center," the Jambi Police Chief said in closing.
According to police, the measure is part of efforts to strengthen prevention while restricting the operating space of drug networks that use Jambi as a transit and distribution hub for illegal trade. (IDNC)
