BANDA ACEH | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The Government of Aceh has extended the state of readiness for hydrometeorological disasters until April 20, 2026, following an updated severe weather warning issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The decision comes amid forecasts of prolonged extreme weather conditions affecting multiple districts, including the provincial capital, Banda Aceh.
BMKG Issues Extended Heavy Rain Warning
The BMKG reports that unstable atmospheric dynamics over Aceh are being driven by cyclonic circulation patterns, strong wind shear, and convergent air flows. These conditions are expected to intensify cloud formation and trigger sustained heavy rainfall across the province between 11 and 20 April 2026.

Meteorologists warn that most areas in Aceh may experience moderate to very heavy rainfall, significantly increasing the risk of flooding and landslides. River basins and mountainous regions are identified as the most vulnerable zones.

24/7 Emergency Response Activated
The provincial government has instructed all districts to activate emergency operations centers on a 24-hour basis. Local disaster management agencies (BPBD), in coordination with the provincial disaster mitigation authority (BPBA) and BMKG, are tasked with closely monitoring weather developments.
Aceh Provincial Secretary M. Nasir emphasized the importance of real-time monitoring and rapid response coordination during a virtual meeting with disaster response and search-and-rescue teams. Authorities have also strengthened communication channels to ensure timely dissemination of alerts to the public.

Preventive Measures and Early Warning System Strengthened
The Aceh government has implemented a series of preventive actions, including drainage system cleaning, river dredging, and sediment removal to reduce overflow risks. Hazardous trees are being trimmed, and unstable billboards secured to prevent storm-related accidents.
Rapid response teams (TRC), evacuation vehicles, rescue boats, and emergency shelters have been deployed to strategic locations. In addition, early warning systems are being enhanced, with village leaders instructed to distribute alerts via digital platforms, sirens, and local media. (IDNC)
