LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Santun-Berkata-Bijak-Berkarya (SBBK) Square in Kotapinang was awash in red and white on Monday, August 17, 2026, as the Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency Government held a ceremony commemorating the 81st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. Labuhanbatu Selatan Regent Fery Sahputra Simatupang, S.H., served as the ceremony leader during the solemn yet festive event.
Thousands of participants and invited guests attended the ceremony, which served as the centerpiece of the 81st Independence Day celebrations in Labuhanbatu Selatan. The patriotic atmosphere was particularly evident when 70 members of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Paskibra, the flag-raising team, carried out their duty of raising the red-and-white national flag.With upright posture, precise movements and a high level of discipline, the finest young men and women from Labuhanbatu Selatan carried out their task with distinction before the ceremony participants and members of the public. Their successful performance was met with prolonged applause from the crowds filling SBBK Square.
The presence of the Paskibra was not merely part of the official flag ceremony. Their performance also represented the readiness of Labuhanbatu Selatan's younger generation to carry forward the spirit of struggle inherited from previous generations and to uphold independence through discipline, responsibility and achievement.Fery Sahputra Simatupang expressed his appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the 81st Independence Day celebrations in Labuhanbatu Selatan.
"On behalf of myself and the Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency Government, I wish the Republic of Indonesia a happy 81st Independence Day. I thank everyone who contributed to the success of this ceremony," Fery Sahputra Simatupang said.Following the raising of the national flag, SBBK Square became even livelier. Various groups took part in a parade, including the Paskibra, TNI and Polri personnel, the regent's assistants and expert advisers, heads of regional agencies, civil servants, students from elementary through senior high school, community organizations and a marching band.
The ranks of participants reflected the unity of different segments of society in commemorating Independence Day. Schoolchildren, young people, government employees, security personnel and community organizations marched together, presenting a picture of unity across generations.For the Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency Government, the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence is not merely a ceremonial occasion. A total of 93 inmates received sentence remissions in conjunction with Indonesia's Independence Day. Regent Fery emphasized that the remission was not simply a reduction in the length of imprisonment, but also recognition for inmates who had demonstrated positive changes in attitude and behavior during their rehabilitation.
"This remission is a form of recognition for inmates who have behaved well and are committed to improving themselves," he said.The granting of sentence remissions also highlighted another dimension of the meaning of independence. The state provides inmates with an opportunity to change through rehabilitation programs and prepare for a better life after returning to society.
Independence Day therefore represents not only the history of the nation's struggle, but also efforts to empower people so that, after returning to society, they can once again play a positive social role.Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., also attended the celebrations alongside his deputy, KOMPOL Moch Guntur Priyantoko, S.H., M.H., and senior officers from the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police.

"The independence we enjoy today is the result of the struggle and sacrifices of our heroes. Therefore, our task today is to give meaning to independence through positive activities, preserve unity, create security and public order, and provide the best possible service to the community," AKBP Rosef said.
According to AKBP Rosef, stable security and public order are important foundations for supporting regional development. For that reason, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police continues to strengthen cooperation with the armed forces, the regional government and the community."We call on all people in Labuhanbatu Selatan to work together to maintain a stable security situation. Differences must not become a cause of division, but rather a source of strength to make Labuhanbatu Selatan safe, peaceful and increasingly progressive," he said.
The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police, Kotapinang Police Sector, Koramil 11 Kotapinang military command and the Satpol PP municipal police unit of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency Government secured all events. Security personnel carried out both open and covert security measures to ensure that all activities proceeded in an orderly manner.After the ceremony and parade concluded, the drum band performance once again created a lively atmosphere at SBBK Square. The Labuhanbatu Selatan Paskibra, TNI platoons, members of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police, Satpol PP personnel, and junior and senior high school students performed before the public.
