MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Regional Board of the Himpunan Pengusaha KAHMI in North Sumatra (BPW HIPKA North Sumatra) held a Trup Gembira Tournament for the public to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia in 2026. The event was held in a relaxed and family-oriented atmosphere while also providing an opportunity for people to interact and strengthen social ties.
The tournament was held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Tasri Swimming Pool in the Tasri residential complex on Jalan Flamboyan Raya, Medan. BPW HIPKA North Sumatra Chairman Anggi Rhaditya Lubis, S.P., M.M., personally opened the event.Several prominent figures attended the opening ceremony, including HIPKA North Sumatra Advisory Board Chairman H. Rusdi Lubis; HIPKA North Sumatra Supervisory Board Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Dr. H. Sugiat Santoso, S.E., M.SP.; Secretary-General H. Aja Syahri, M.Sos.; members of the BPW HIPKA North Sumatra board; and Deputy Mayor of Tanjungbalai M. Fadli Abdina, S.P., M.Si.
The presence of HIPKA board members, KAHMI figures, representatives of local government, participants, community groups, students, academics and members of the public created a lively atmosphere from the outset.According to the organizing committee, around 500 people attended the event. They included not only tournament participants but also members of the public and various communities from Medan, Deli Serdang and Tanjungbalai.
Numerous students, academics and representatives from various universities also took part in the event. In addition, the organizing committee set up a food bazaar featuring micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) supported by BPW HIPKA North Sumatra, the KAHMI North Sumatra Regional Board, FORHATI North Sumatra and the Koperasi Yakusa North Sumatra cooperative.The MSME bazaar added another distinctive element to the tournament. Visitors watching the matches could enjoy a variety of food while at the same time supporting local small businesses.
BPW HIPKA North Sumatra Chairman Anggi Rhaditya Lubis said the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence should not only be a moment to remember the sacrifices of the nation's heroes. HIPKA North Sumatra also wanted to use the occasion to strengthen unity and togetherness through activities involving the community.Anggi encouraged all participants to enjoy the tournament in a cheerful and family-oriented atmosphere. He deliberately chose the swimming pool venue so participants could experience the event in a comfortable, green and relaxing environment.
Anggi also reminded all participants to uphold fairness and safety and to help ensure that the tournament ran smoothly. He hoped all matches would proceed in an orderly manner and provide a positive and entertaining experience for both participants and members of the public in attendance.
HIPKA North Sumatra Advisory Board Chairman H. Rusdi Lubis reminded participants not to view the competition solely as a contest for victory. Instead, he encouraged them to use the tournament as an opportunity to build new connections and strengthen solidarity.
"Do not make this competition merely a fight for victory. Use it as an opportunity to interact, get to know fellow participants in the Trup Gembira Tournament and build solidarity among Trup players. In the future, Trup could be developed into a sport like dominoes and chess."The message underscored that the Trup Gembira Tournament was not designed solely around competition. HIPKA North Sumatra organizers and board members also sought to create a space where people from different social backgrounds could meet and interact.
Through the games, participants had an opportunity to get to know one another and develop closer relationships. The spirit of togetherness was one of the main objectives of the event, which was held as part of the celebrations marking Indonesia's Independence Day.HIPKA North Sumatra Supervisory Board Chairman Dr. H. Sugiat Santoso also reminded participants to uphold fairness, honesty and good sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Sugiat stressed that the outcome of a competition should not be the only measure of its success. Victory and defeat are an inseparable part of any competition. Nevertheless, brotherhood and solidarity must remain a priority.He expressed hope that participants would help maintain a harmonious atmosphere throughout the matches. The BPW HIPKA North Sumatra chairman, the secretary-general, members of the advisory board, the KAHMI North Sumatra presidium, the KAHMI North Sumatra secretary-general and the deputy mayor of Tanjungbalai also participated in the competition, joining teams representing members of the public.
The involvement of officials and prominent figures created an even livelier atmosphere. They mingled with participants from different social groups without distinctions based on background, allowing the competition to unfold in a strong spirit of community.The organizing committee viewed the participation of various social groups as an important part of the objectives of the Trup Gembira Tournament. In addition to being a sporting competition, the event served as a meeting point for residents, community groups, students, academics, MSME entrepreneurs and members of various organizations.
Trup Gembira Tournament organizing committee chairman Ridho Alnajar said a total of 48 teams participated in the competition. Each team consisted of four players and competed for the BPW HIPKA North Sumatra rotating trophy.In addition to the rotating trophy, the organizing committee also provided a total prize pool of Rp10 million for the winners.
Ridho expressed hope that the tournament could develop into a regular and growing event that provides the public with a space to meet through positive activities. The high level of public participation also demonstrated that sports and traditional games can be effective ways of strengthening social relationships.By combining competition, social interaction and MSME activities, BPW HIPKA North Sumatra sought to ensure that the celebration of Indonesia's 81st Independence Day would not be limited to a formal ceremony.
