LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Effendi has emphasized that cooperation between the police and media representatives should go beyond a mere partnership. In his view, the collaboration is an important part of maintaining regional stability, strengthening public trust, and creating room for accelerated development in Labuhanbatu Selatan.
AKBP Rosef Effendi conveyed the message during a meeting with several journalists in a relaxed atmosphere over lunch at Kantin 17 Simaninggir in the Kotapinang District on Monday, August 24, 2026.The meeting also provided the police chief with an opportunity to introduce several newly appointed senior officers within the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police. Although the gathering was informal and held without a formal setting, it carried a strategic message about the importance of maintaining good communication between law enforcement authorities and the media.
AKBP Rosef Effendi, who has only recently begun serving in Labuhanbatu Selatan, considers communication with all segments of society a first step toward understanding the region's particular characteristics while building cooperation."We can work together because I am also still new here. Today we are having this lunch meeting to get to know one another—not formally, but in a relaxed atmosphere, with a clear objective," Rosef Effendi said.
Rosef Effendi considers the media to play an important role in conveying developments within the jurisdiction of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police. For that reason, he is promoting healthy communication so that information concerning security conditions, public services, and social issues can reach the public accurately.
The police chief assured journalists that the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police would remain open to communication and dialogue. At the same time, he stressed that every matter must be handled through established procedures and within the appropriate chain of authority so that follow-up action can be carried out properly."We do not close the door to media representatives. Whatever needs to be clarified, please understand that we have a hierarchy and a central point of contact. Be assured and confident that we will follow up on the matter. If something needs to be communicated, we will establish the connection," he said.
Rosef Effendi stressed that the relationship between the police and the press must ultimately serve the public interest, particularly by delivering accurate and balanced information that does not create misunderstandings.As a law enforcement institution and at the same time a public service provider, the police require healthy public communication. Conversely, the media need clear access to information so that their reporting does not lead to misinterpretations among the public.
"We must not allow the information conveyed to mislead the public. As long as it concerns positive matters and is not intended to discredit Labusel. If there are shortcomings, we can certainly communicate about them," he explained.The statement also demonstrates that criticism of various issues in society continues to have room for open discussion. In Rosef Effendi's view, open communication can prevent criticism, reports, or information from developing into misunderstandings.
He also stressed that relations between the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police and media representatives should remain open. Good communication would allow information of public interest to be submitted through the proper channels and followed up according to the relevant authorities."There must be no misunderstandings. Everything is transparent and nothing is being covered up," he emphasized.
However, the police cannot create such conditions alone. The government, community, business sector, and media must work together so that the region can continue developing and compete with other areas.
"We hope that our jurisdiction can continue to develop and not fall behind other regions," he said.He added that investors need a secure regional environment and harmonious relations among various stakeholders. Good communication among all elements of society is therefore an important factor in creating a healthy investment climate.
"If we want investors to come here in the future, we must work together. A region can develop when good relationships exist," he stressed.The police chief hopes that communication between the police and the press will not stop at mutual visits or the introduction of newly appointed officers. Instead, he wants the relationship to evolve into concrete cooperation aimed at maintaining security and public order.
In his assessment, the media can support the police in conveying information to the public while also serving as one of the channels for identifying various problems emerging within society.
Rosef Effendi hopes that the cooperation being established can contribute to preventing security problems and criminal activity. An effective exchange of information, he said, will make it easier for all parties to respond to matters of public concern.
"If there is information about harmful or criminal activities, we hope that such things can be prevented through our cooperation," he said in closing.The meeting was also attended by Labuhanbatu Selatan Deputy Police Chief Kompol Moch. Guntur; Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Eriks Raydikson Nainggolan; Narcotics Investigation Unit Chief AKP Wilson Manahan Panjaitan; Intelligence and Security Unit Chief AKP Aswan Ginting Suka; Traffic Unit Chief AKP Yustina; and other senior officers of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police.
