DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The Deli Serdang Regency Government held its Car Free Day (CFD) again on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, marking the second week of the program. The initiative is part of local efforts to support efficiency policies issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs while encouraging a healthier lifestyle and stronger environmental awareness among residents.
Creating Healthier and Greener Public SpacesThe Car Free Day program has significantly reduced the use of motorized vehicles in public areas, helping to lower energy consumption and decrease air pollution levels. In return, the initiative provides cleaner, safer, and more comfortable public spaces for the community to enjoy.
The local government emphasized its commitment to policies that not only improve administrative efficiency but also deliver tangible benefits for public health and environmental sustainability.
Weekly Program for Sustainable Living
Head of the Communication, Information, Statistics, and Encryption Agency (Kominfostan) of Deli Serdang, Sandra Dewi Situmorang, S.STP, M.Si, stated in Lubuk Pakam on Thursday, April 23, 2026, that Car Free Day will now be held regularly every Wednesday as an official weekly program."It is not only about closing roads to vehicles, but also about creating space for people to adopt healthier lifestyles and strengthen community interaction," she said.
She further added, "CFD also serves as a platform for sports activities, social engagement, and the empowerment of small and medium enterprises (SMEs)."
Community Participation and Environmental Education
The Deli Serdang Government actively involves various community groups in the implementation of CFD, including cycling communities, environmental activists, and students. The event is also accompanied by environmental education campaigns, particularly efforts to reduce plastic waste.Sandra Dewi Situmorang concluded by highlighting the government's expectations.
