DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Deli Serdang Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo, SS, has praised the role of the Yogyakarta Special Region Family Association (KBDIY) in preserving and nurturing culture and upholding noble values within the Deli Serdang community.
Lom Lom expressed his appreciation while attending the 31st anniversary celebration of KBDIY, which featured the Wayang Orang performance Anoman Duta at the Graha Indah residential complex in Kelapa Gading, Sunggal District, on Sunday, August 23, 2026.Lom Lom emphasized that preserving traditions, customs, and good character is not solely the responsibility of particular groups or communities. In his view, all members of society have a duty to ensure that the noble values passed down by previous generations remain alive and can be handed on to future generations.
"It is our duty to preserve these noble traditions, uphold them, and pass them on to our children and future generations," he said.He stressed that young people must be given opportunities to learn about, understand, and appreciate the cultures that have developed within society. This approach is important so that the passage of time and social progress do not cause the next generation to lose its connection with traditions and values that form part of the nation's identity.
In this context, regional community associations have strategic importance. Such associations are not merely gathering places for people who share a cultural background, but can also help strengthen social ties and preserve cultural diversity.Lom Lom emphasized that the cultural diversity thriving in Deli Serdang must continue to be nurtured in the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity. Various groups within society can contribute to creating a harmonious social environment while preserving their respective identities and cultural values.
Together with Asniar Lom Lom Suwondo, the First Expert Staff and Chairwoman of the Deli Serdang Regency Family Welfare Empowerment Team (TP PKK), he also expressed his appreciation for the Wayang Orang performance Anoman Duta. He viewed the performance not merely as entertainment for the public, but also as a medium for conveying moral messages.According to Lom Lom, the world of wayang contains numerous lessons that remain relevant to social life. These include the struggle against anger, arbitrariness, and other destructive traits, as well as the importance of living together in a spirit of community and mutual respect.

He expressed hope that these values would not remain confined to the messages delivered through the performance. In particular, he wants the younger generation to be able to put those values into practice in their daily lives.
The spirit of community solidarity and mutual respect, Lom Lom continued, is also an important foundation for building harmonious social life. Solidarity can strengthen relationships among people while creating opportunities to work together to improve prosperity."If we stand together as a community, prosperity and well-being will follow. Most importantly, we can come together to preserve culture and good character," he said.
He also described cultural events such as the KBDIY anniversary celebration as important moments for strengthening the community's role in preserving cultural heritage. Such events also provide people from different backgrounds with opportunities to interact and build closer relationships. In his view, cultural preservation does not have to take place solely through formal events. People can maintain traditions through various arts and cultural activities, community gatherings, and by passing noble values on to children and young people.

He emphasized that strong relations between the government and various community groups are an important foundation for supporting regional development. The government, the public, and cultural communities can work together to maintain harmonious social relations while strengthening the spirit of togetherness.
Lom Lom hoped that KBDIY would continue playing an active role in preserving culture and conveying noble values to the next generation. He also expressed hope that similar events could be held continuously, providing the community with opportunities to share various traditions with younger generations. In his view, diversity in Deli Serdang is a shared asset that must be preserved. Differences in cultural backgrounds should not become obstacles to building unity. Instead, diversity can become a strength when mutual respect and brotherhood are placed at the center of community life.
"Alhamdulillah, today we have gathered together. Hopefully, this gathering will bring blessings and goodness to all of us," he said.Through the 31st anniversary celebration of KBDIY and the performance of Anoman Duta, the community was not only able to enjoy traditional performing arts, but was also reminded once again of the importance of preserving culture, good character, solidarity, and brotherhood. This spirit is expected to continue growing as an integral part of Deli Serdang's diverse social life. (IDNC)
