DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government on Monday, August 31, 2026, began construction of a new building for SMP Negeri 2 Galang in Pisang Pala Village, Galang District. The construction is aimed at expanding educational facilities while developing SMP Negeri 2 Galang into one of the leading schools in Galang District.
Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan officially marked the start of construction with a groundbreaking ceremony. The event was also attended by representatives of the Deli Serdang Regency Government, representatives of PT Lonsum, as well as students of SMP Negeri 2 Galang.
The new construction is part of the regency government's efforts to improve educational infrastructure and facilities. The more modern and better-equipped facilities are expected to create a comfortable learning environment and support the educational process for students.
Asri Ludin Tambunan said the construction of SMP Negeri 2 Galang was an important step toward strengthening educational infrastructure in Deli Serdang Regency. The regional government also aims to ensure that the younger generation has a learning environment that supports not only academic development but also the growth of other skills and talents.
"This is a major step during my tenure together with the deputy regent. Within one and a half years, we have been able to realize the construction of SMP Negeri 2 Galang," he said.
In the first phase of construction, the Deli Serdang Government will build 12 classrooms, three laboratories, a library, and fencing around the entire school compound. The first phase is scheduled to be completed within 130 working days.
The facilities will play an important role in supporting teaching and learning activities. With sufficient classrooms, laboratories, and a library, the school will have greater opportunities to develop academic activities and learning programs according to the needs of its students.
The development will not end with the first phase. The Deli Serdang Government plans a second phase that will include a teachers' room, a principal's office, a prayer room, and a canteen.
The phased development underscores the regional government's commitment to meeting the needs of SMP Negeri 2 Galang comprehensively. The government hopes that the facilities will create a more representative school environment for students, teachers, and other educational personnel.

In addition to expanding physical infrastructure, SMP Negeri 2 Galang will also be incorporated into an integrated school concept. The concept connects different levels of education, from elementary school to junior high school and senior high school.
Through the integrated school concept, the government seeks to establish continuous educational development so that student development can be carried out in a more targeted and systematic manner. The system is also expected to help schools develop students' abilities and potential from elementary school through subsequent levels of education.
"Our hope is that this will become the starting point for an integrated school and develop into one of the leading schools in Galang District. Children who continue from here to senior high school should have stronger skills," he said.
Asri emphasized that the new construction should not merely result in a building with more comprehensive facilities. In his view, improvements in educational infrastructure must go hand in hand with improvements in teaching quality and students' abilities.
With improved facilities, SMP Negeri 2 Galang is expected to contribute to the development of an important educational center and help improve the quality of human resources in Galang District.
The school also holds significant importance for the surrounding community. Adequate educational infrastructure can provide children in the Galang area with better opportunities to pursue their studies effectively without having to rely on educational facilities in other areas.

The Deli Serdang Regent emphasized that investment in educational facilities was a long-term commitment. The government is not merely building physical infrastructure but also preparing the younger generation to face future challenges.
In his view, the quality of education plays an important role in developing human resources capable of adapting to social and technological changes. The construction of the school is therefore also part of efforts to support the realization of "Golden Indonesia 2045."
The regional government also called on residents and parents to jointly protect and maintain the school and its facilities after construction is completed. Asri stressed that responsibility for the school does not rest solely with the government but also requires support from the wider community.
He urged residents to develop a shared sense of responsibility for the educational facility through simple measures. These include keeping the school grounds clean, planting trees, and carrying out community activities to maintain the surrounding environment.
"This school is where our children gain knowledge and pursue their dreams. Let us take responsibility together and protect this school," he concluded.
The construction of SMP Negeri 2 Galang in Pisang Pala Village is expected to provide an important boost to the improvement of educational infrastructure in Galang District. Through the phased development and planned integrated school concept, the regional government aims to provide students with a better learning environment while preparing young people with stronger skills for the transition to senior high school.
