BANDA ACEH | INDATANEWS.COM - Aceh Deputy Governor Fadhlullah has called on district and city governments to strengthen communication and coordination with the Balai Wilayah Sungai Sumatera I (BWS Sumatera I) and the Balai Pelaksanaan Jalan Nasional Aceh (BPJN Aceh) to accelerate the rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by hydrometeorological disasters.
Fadhlullah made the call during a coordination meeting on accelerating post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction, held virtually from Jakarta on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The meeting discussed progress in addressing various infrastructure damages as well as measures to accelerate recovery in affected areas.During the meeting, Fadhlullah stressed the importance of an active role by district and city governments in reporting problems and local needs to the relevant technical authorities. According to him, effective communication can help the government determine the necessary measures in accordance with the respective areas of responsibility.
"We hope the districts and cities will continue communicating with BWS and BPJN so that existing problems in the field can be resolved," Fadhlullah said.He said this step was important because several problems in different regions share similar characteristics. The damage includes affected rice fields, irrigation networks, dams, roads and bridges.
Fadhlullah said restoring the various types of infrastructure was an urgent priority because they are directly connected to people's daily activities. Roads and bridges, for example, play an important role in maintaining residents' mobility. Irrigation networks, meanwhile, are closely linked to the continuity of agricultural activities and the water supply for rice fields."We know which works are being handled by BWS and BPJN. However, there are areas that fall under the authority of the province or districts and cannot be addressed because there is no budget available for them," he said.
Limited financial resources make coordination between different levels of government even more important. District and city governments must identify damage within their respective areas of authority while also communicating with technical agencies when the required measures fall under the jurisdiction of another level of government.According to Fadhlullah, early coordination can also help prevent delays in addressing particularly severe infrastructure damage. He urged regional governments not to remain passive in dealing with the situation.
"We must not allow severe damage to be dealt with too late. We have to act actively and proactively," he stressed.
Fadhlullah subsequently highlighted the situation in Sawang, Aceh Utara Regency. Following the disaster, roads and bridges in the area reportedly remain in need of repairs that have yet to be completed.
He called on the regional government to immediately coordinate the situation with the relevant authorities. In his view, swift action is necessary to prevent damaged infrastructure from further disrupting the activities of local communities.Roads and bridges are among the types of infrastructure whose condition has a direct impact on people's lives. When transportation links are damaged and cannot be fully used, residents' mobility can be significantly affected. This can also disrupt economic activities and people's daily routines.
Therefore, district and city governments must provide technical authorities with clear and up-to-date information about conditions on the ground. At the same time, regional governments must ensure that reported damage data accurately reflects actual rehabilitation needs, enabling each responsible agency to determine appropriate measures within its duties and authority.Fadhlullah expressed hope that regional governments could establish more intensive coordination with BWS and BPJN. He said this step was an important part of accelerating the rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure damaged by hydrometeorological disasters.
Damaged irrigation channels can disrupt the flow of water to agricultural areas. If the situation is not addressed, agricultural activities and the productivity of rice fields could also be affected.
Therefore, regional governments must include damage to irrigation networks in their post-disaster assessments. The data collected can then serve as a basis for coordination with BWS and other relevant authorities to determine the required rehabilitation measures.Representatives of district and city governments, BWS Sumatera I, BPJN Aceh, Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works and other relevant agencies attended the coordination meeting, which was held virtually from Jakarta.
The meeting discussed the respective responsibilities of each institution as well as measures to accelerate post-disaster infrastructure recovery. Through coordination, the government is expected to more clearly determine the specific actions required in each region and accelerate the restoration of damaged infrastructure.Fadhlullah once again emphasized the importance of an active approach by district and city governments in addressing problems in their respective areas. Regional administrations must establish communication with technical authorities and quickly convey information about conditions on the ground so that each issue can be followed up immediately according to the respective areas of responsibility.
