PRESERVING BATAK TOBA TRADITIONS: Repol Mahdan Harahap, Chair of the Labuhanbatu Selatan chapter of the Ikatan Pemuda Karya (IPK), underscores the importance of safeguarding Batak Toba customs amid the tide of modernization while attending a traditional ceremony in Torgamba, Labuhanbatu Selatan, North Sumatra, Indonesia, on Thursday (March 26, 2026.

Responding to this challenge, Repol Mahdan Harahap, Chairman of the Regional Board (DPD) of Ikatan Pemuda Karya (IPK) Labuhanbatu Selatan, reaffirmed his strong commitment to preserving the Batak-Toba tradition as a vital ancestral heritage.

The statement was delivered during a traditional cultural event held in Aek Batu Village, Torgamba District, Labuhanbatu Selatan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. on Thursday (March 26, 2026). The event reflected a deep-rooted cultural atmosphere, emphasizing the importance of maintaining tradition in modern times.

In his remarks, Repol highlighted growing public concern over the gradual loss of cultural values due to modernization. Rapid technological advancement, shifting lifestyles, and the influence of global culture have significantly altered how younger generations perceive traditional practices.

"Tradition is not outdated, it is our identity. If we abandon it, we lose our roots," he stressed.

He warned that sacred ceremonies are increasingly being reduced to mere formalities, often performed without a deep understanding of their meaning. Without concrete preservation efforts, Repol cautioned that future generations may only know these traditions through stories.

As the leader of DPD IPK Labuhanbatu Selatan, he emphasized the organization's responsibility to actively safeguard cultural values, including mutual cooperation, respect for elders, and strong family ties.
