Bunda PAUD Deli Serdang Urges Young Generation to Strengthen Reading Culture

DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Bunda PAUD of Deli Serdang, Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, has called on the younger generation to strengthen the culture of reading and writing. She said this is an important step toward developing knowledge, creativity, and personal skills amid the rapid advancement of digital technology.

Jelita delivered the message during her visit to LEADER: Literasi Deli Serdang 2026, an event organized by the Komunitas Mulai Menulis Indonesia on Sunday, September 14, 2026, at the Hall of the Deli Serdang Regency Library and Archives Office.

At the event, Jelita and other representatives highlighted the collaboration between Komunitas Mulai Menulis Indonesia and the government, educational institutions, universities, and the wider community to strengthen the reading culture in Deli Serdang Regency.

Use Digital Technology Wisely

Jelita emphasized that the development of digital technology has provided numerous conveniences for society, particularly for the younger generation. However, she said technological progress must be balanced with the habit of reading and writing, as well as direct interaction with the surrounding social environment.

According to Jelita, excessive use of digital devices can lead young people to spend more time in the digital world. This, in turn, may affect their interest in reading and engaging in social interactions.

She therefore encouraged young people to use technology responsibly while making reading part of their daily routine. She stressed that building a reading culture does not have to begin with ambitious or burdensome targets.

"Young people should read a lot. It does not have to be a lot at first. One or two pages a day is perfectly fine. What matters is making it a habit," she said.

Jelita explained that regular reading can be a simple step toward broadening one's horizons. Through the habit, young people can also gain diverse knowledge that supports their learning process, stimulates creativity, and encourages a more open way of thinking.

Encourage the Young Generation to Create

In addition to reading, Jelita encouraged the younger generation to further develop their writing skills. In her view, reading and writing are closely linked to the development of critical thinking and the ability to produce works that can benefit others.

She also reminded young people to continue learning and working hard to achieve their goals. Support from parents and teachers, she said, should be appreciated as an important part of the educational journey and personal development of the younger generation.

Jelita expressed hope that the spirit of learning and creativity among young people in Deli Serdang would continue to grow. She believes educational and literacy events such as LEADER can provide a space for young people to improve their abilities, exchange ideas, and develop the confidence to create their own works.

According to her, literacy is not limited to the ability to read books. A strong reading culture is also an important part of developing a generation capable of understanding information, communicating ideas, and making responsible decisions amid the flood of digital information.

She therefore hopes that activities involving communities, the government, educational institutions, universities, and society will continue to be developed. In this way, the literacy movement can become more deeply integrated into the daily lives of young people.

LEADER Expected to Produce Young Writers

Jelita hopes that LEADER: Literasi Deli Serdang 2026 will help encourage more young people to develop a love of reading, gain the courage to write, and produce works that benefit society.

She views the presence of literacy and reading communities as an important pillar in creating creative learning spaces. Such communities can encourage young people to express their thoughts and ideas through writing.

Collaboration between communities and various sectors of society can also expand the reach of the literacy movement. Promoting a reading culture, she said, should not be limited to specific events but should become a habit within families, schools, universities, and the wider community.

Jelita once again called on the younger generation to start reading through simple steps. In her view, consistency is the key to making reading a permanent part of everyday life.

"Let us start now by making reading a culture. Reading broadens our horizons and opens up new perspectives on the world," she said.

By strengthening the culture of reading and writing, Jelita hopes the younger generation in Deli Serdang will be better equipped to face the challenges of changing times with a stronger foundation of knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking.
