STRENGTHENING COOPERATION WITH THE GENERAL ELECTIONS COMMISSION: Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan reaffirms the Deli Serdang Regency Government’s support for strengthening democracy through cooperation with the Deli Serdang Regency General Elections Commission.

DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democracy through closer cooperation with the Deli Serdang Regency General Elections Commission. The commitment was reinforced through the signing of a joint agreement on cooperation to strengthen democracy and support the implementation of duties and functions during and outside election periods in Deli Serdang.

Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan signed the agreement together with representatives of the Deli Serdang Regency General Elections Commission on Friday, September 25, 2026. The agreement is part of efforts to strengthen coordination between the regional government and the elections commission in implementing various programs related to democracy, elections and public political education.

The joint agreement covers cooperation both during election periods and outside election periods. Through the agreement, the Deli Serdang Regency Government and the Deli Serdang Regency General Elections Commission are expected to maintain communication and coordination in the continuous implementation of various programs aimed at strengthening democracy.

Deli Serdang Government Signals Budget Support

Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan said the Deli Serdang Regency Government was prepared to support programs aimed at strengthening democracy and conducting elections. At the same time, the regional government remains open to discussions with the General Elections Commission regarding various programs that require additional support.

The support also includes a funding proposal submitted by the General Elections Commission. The Deli Serdang Regency Government will seek to accommodate the needs through the regional budget mechanism, taking into account its financial capacity and applicable regulations.

"We will certainly provide support. Regarding the funding that has already been proposed, if it cannot yet be accommodated through the revised regional budget, we will try to include it in next year's budget. We will also continue discussing with the KPU which programs need to be strengthened," the regent said.

The regional government considers continuous communication with the elections commission necessary so that requirements related to the implementation of each institution's duties and functions can be discussed jointly. Such coordination can also help align democracy-strengthening programs with the regional government's capacities and policy framework.

In addition to financial support, the Deli Serdang Regency Government also has opportunities to cooperate in democratic education. Such programs can help improve public understanding of democratic processes while providing knowledge about elections and voting procedures.

The information activities are part of efforts to give the public a better understanding of electoral processes and the importance of participation in democratic life. The General Elections Commission is also committed to continuing democratic education outside election periods.

Particular attention is being given to first-time voters. Political education for this group is considered important to provide early knowledge about democracy, elections, voting rights and civic responsibility.
