ASAHAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The head of Asahan Regency, Taufik Zainal Abidin Siregar, has praised PT Hijau Surya Biotechindo for its success in producing coconut fibers that are now reaching export markets in China. The products are currently in the shipping phase abroad.
During a visit to the company's coconut fiber processing facility in Air Joman Baru Village, Kecamatan Air Joman, Taufik highlighted the region's vast potential in coconut cultivation, on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
More than 20,000 hectares of coconut plantations are spread across districts such as Silau Laut, Air Joman, Tanjung Balai, Sei Kepayang, East Sei Kepayang, and West Sei Kepayang.
"These coconut fibers are already being exported to China and are now in the shipping process. This is a true source of pride for Asahan," said Taufik.
Government Supports Coconut Fiber Processing
Given the abundant raw materials, Taufik hopes PT Hijau Surya Biotechindo will further increase its production capacity to boost export volume and generate positive economic impacts for local communities.
"The Asahan government will fully support the development of coconut fiber processing since the resources are available locally. This also aligns with the central government's program to promote industrial processing. We hope to receive attention from the central government," he emphasized.
Taufik also expressed gratitude to the company for creating local employment opportunities, which help reduce unemployment.
"With the growth of the coconut fiber industry, we anticipate economic growth and improved welfare for the people of Asahan."
PT Hijau Surya Biotechindo Turns Waste into Valuable Products
Company CEO Budi Chandra thanked the Asahan Regional Leadership Forum (Forkopimda) for their full support of the company's operations.
"We are grateful to Forkopimda Asahan for supporting PT Hijau Surya Biotechindo," said Budi Chandra.
He explained that the idea to utilize coconut fibers from waste emerged because these materials had previously been underutilized. The company now processes fibers into high-quality products such as planting substrates, car seats, mattresses, and mats.
The factory also creates jobs for local residents. "Through this factory, we are able to employ local workers, especially from the surrounding neighborhood," Budi Chandra added. (IDNC)
