SPIRITUAL AND MENTAL GUIDANCE: The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police conduct religious and mental guidance sessions to strengthen officers’ faith, integrity and professionalism while promoting a compassionate approach to serving the public.

LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police (Polres Labuhanbatu Selatan) are strengthening the character and integrity of their officers through regular religious and mental guidance sessions. One such session was held on Thursday, 15 October 2026, focusing on the importance of balancing professionalism, spiritual strength, self-control and moral responsibility when carrying out their duties as protectors and public servants.

The initiative forms part of the police force's efforts to develop officers who not only possess the professional skills required to maintain security, but also act with compassion, composure, honesty and sincerity when serving the public.

The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police organised separate sessions according to participants' religious affiliations. Muslim officers attended the programme at the Al Ikhlas prayer room within the police compound. The session, led by Al Ustadz M. Ferry, was entitled "Frequently Seeking Forgiveness for Oneself".

Meanwhile, Christian officers gathered in the police station's assembly hall for their spiritual guidance session. Preacher C. Br. D. Hutagaol delivered a message entitled "Called and Chosen by God", inviting participants to reflect on their personal calling in life and the responsibilities that come with carrying out their duties.

Through the initiative, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police aim to strengthen the moral and spiritual foundations of every officer. The programme is expected to promote professional policing supported by a strong commitment to integrity.

Faith as the Foundation of Integrity

Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., said through Public Relations Unit Head AKP Sujono that religious and mental guidance, known as Binrohtal, was an important component of personnel development. The programme aims to cultivate officers with psychological resilience, sound character and a strong moral awareness of their professional responsibilities.

According to the police chief, spiritual guidance is more than a routine activity within the police force. It gives officers an opportunity to evaluate their own conduct, recognise personal shortcomings and strengthen their sincerity in dealing with members of the public.

"Through this Binrohtal programme, all police officers are expected to strengthen their faith and reverence for God in accordance with their respective religions, improve their self-control, uphold their integrity, and carry out their duties with full responsibility and sincerity," the police chief said in a message conveyed through the head of the Public Relations Unit.

The message underscores the importance of combining professional competence with spiritual maturity and moral strength. Police officers encounter a wide range of situations while on duty and therefore need self-control, clear principles and the ability to make appropriate decisions.

Spiritual guidance is intended to help officers cope with professional pressures without losing sight of their ethical obligations. Religious values can serve as a moral compass, encouraging them to act responsibly and maintain public confidence in the police.

Self-Reflection and Responsibility in Policing

The theme "Frequently Seeking Forgiveness for Oneself" reminds Muslim officers of the importance of seeking forgiveness, recognising personal weaknesses and improving their conduct. Self-reflection is an essential part of personal development, fostering discipline, honesty and the ability to manage emotions in difficult situations.

In policing, these values are directly linked to officers' obligation to act proportionately, respect the public and exercise their powers responsibly. A willingness to improve can also help prevent conduct that violates professional ethics or the institution's applicable regulations.

The theme "Called and Chosen by God", meanwhile, was intended for Christian officers. It encouraged them to understand their responsibilities as part of their personal calling in life. The message highlighted the importance of sincerity, commitment and moral awareness in carrying out assigned duties.

Both themes reflect an approach to spiritual guidance that respects the officers' individual religious beliefs. At the same time, the programme highlights the importance of respecting religious diversity within the police force while maintaining a shared objective: building good character and improving the quality of policing.

The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police expect the values conveyed through Binrohtal to extend beyond formal gatherings. Officers are encouraged to put these principles into practice in their daily work, whether interacting with members of the public, addressing public security and order issues, or fulfilling their responsibilities within the institution.

Compassionate Service Builds Public Trust

Public trust is essential to the police's ability to enforce the law and maintain public security. Professional competence must therefore go hand in hand with integrity, discipline, mutual respect and a willingness to respond to the needs of the community.

Mental and spiritual guidance is intended to help officers remain calm under pressure, make considered decisions and prioritise humane treatment when delivering public services. This is important to ensure that policing is not limited to the exercise of authority, but also takes account of fairness and the interests of the public.

In public service, officers' everyday conduct plays a significant role in shaping how the community perceives the police institution. Character development must therefore go hand in hand with improvements in professional skills, discipline and compliance with applicable regulations.

Through Binrohtal, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police are seeking to improve the quality of their personnel and prepare officers mentally and morally for the challenges of police work. The initiative also forms part of wider efforts to foster tolerance, accountability and sincerity in carrying out assigned responsibilities.

The success of spiritual guidance cannot be measured solely by whether sessions take place, but more importantly by the changes in behaviour reflected in officers' daily duties. Faith must be demonstrated through concrete actions, including fair service, adherence to professional ethical standards, respect for differing beliefs and the responsible exercise of official powers.

The Binrohtal sessions at the Al Ikhlas prayer room and the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police assembly hall proceeded smoothly, safely and in an orderly atmosphere. The police force reaffirmed its commitment to developing officers who remain dedicated to maintaining public security and order while upholding moral values, tolerance and humanity.

By strengthening faith, upholding integrity and continually improving professionalism, officers are expected to deliver the best possible service and maintain public confidence in the police.

The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police reaffirmed their commitment to the Presisi policing vision, pledging to continue doing good and to act swiftly, intelligently, consistently and sincerely in maintaining security and public order. (IDNC)
