LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - CCTV footage helped the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Torgamba Police uncover a burglary at Madina Mart in Sumberjo Pirbun C, Asam Jawa Village, Torgamba District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. Police arrested a 56-year-old man identified by the initials HBS, also known as Kliwon, who is known as a repeat offender.
Police used the CCTV footage as one of the key leads in identifying the suspected perpetrator. Following a series of investigations, officers obtained information about HBS's whereabouts in the vicinity of the Pinang Awan gas station, or SPBU Pinang Awan, where he was eventually arrested.The case began with a report filed by Dedek Priyanto Nasution after several valuable items were stolen during a burglary at Madina Mart on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at around 3 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
The stolen items included a black Yamaha NMax motorcycle with license plate A 2716 DP, Rp25 million in cash, and a Casio wristwatch.South Labuhanbatu Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., through Torgamba Police Chief AKP Sunipan Gurusinga, S.H., said officers immediately took action after receiving the victim's report.
"After receiving the report, officers immediately examined the crime scene and collected various pieces of evidence. From the CCTV footage, investigators were able to identify the facial features of the person suspected of being involved in the crime," AKP Sunipan said on Sunday, August 9, 2026, when contacted at the Torgamba Police Station.The discovery strengthened suspicions that the perpetrator had entered Madina Mart by forcibly damaging part of the building. Police then conducted a more detailed analysis of the CCTV footage to identify the characteristics of the person captured by the camera at the time of the incident.
Officers compared the findings from the crime scene with the results of their field investigation. During the investigation, police received information about a man who was allegedly connected to the theft and was reportedly in the vicinity of the Pinang Awan gas station.The Torgamba Police Chief then instructed the head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, IPTU Rajo Irwan Hamonangan, S.H., M.H., along with other officers, to make the arrest.
The operation was successful. Police arrested HBS, also known as Kliwon, 56, who is from Jalan Kelumpang Pajak, Kelumpang Village, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency.During initial questioning, HBS confessed to the crime and admitted to carrying out the theft at Madina Mart in Sumberjo Pirbun C, Asam Jawa Village.
Police also secured the damaged window grille and a vehicle registration certificate (STNK) as evidence for the ongoing investigation.
AKP Sunipan said the interrogation of HBS provided further information about the theft."Based on the results of the questioning, the suspect has confessed to the crime. The suspect and the evidence are currently being held at the Torgamba Police Station as the legal process continues," AKP Sunipan said.
Police believe financial difficulties may have been one of the possible motives behind the theft. Investigators are also taking into consideration the fact that HBS is already known as a repeat offender.HBS is being prosecuted under Article 477 Paragraph (2) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) in connection with the offense.
