INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE: Polda Jambi marks HANI 2026 by destroying drug evidence at the police headquarters as a symbol of state transparency.

JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - The Jambi Regional Police (Polda Jambi) marked the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (HANI) by publicly destroying evidence from drug-related crimes at the "Lapangan Hitam" field within the Jambi Police Headquarters. The initiative stands as a strong symbol of collective commitment between law enforcement agencies and relevant institutions in combating the increasingly alarming threat of illicit drug trafficking, particularly among the younger generation.

The seized and destroyed evidence included 147,014 grams of methamphetamine (shabu), 52,963 ecstasy tablets weighing approximately 23,224.8 grams in total, and 887 etomidate cartridges with a volume of around 2,028.6 ml/grams. The destruction process not only fulfills legal procedures but also serves as a form of public transparency, ensuring that all confiscated substances are properly and completely eliminated.

Broad State Institutions Participation

The event was attended by Deputy Governor of Jambi Drs. H. Abdullah Sani, M.Pd., Jambi Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Krisno H. Siregar, S.I.K., M.H., Deputy Police Chief Brigjen Pol. Beny Ali, S.I.K., S.H., Commander of Military Regional Command 042/Garuda Putih Brigjen TNI Nyamin, S.I.P., M.M., and Head of BNN Jambi Province Brigjen Pol. Asep Saepudin, S.I.K.

HANI 2026 Program: Shared Commitment Against Drugs

The series of events began with the screening of a video highlighting the impact of drug abuse, followed by a joint prayer, a report from the BNN provincial office, remarks from the Police Chief and Deputy Governor, inspection of evidence by the police forensic team, and a symbolic destruction carried out by representatives of Forkopimda.

Strengthening Institutional Cooperation

Head of BNN Jambi Province Brigjen Pol. Asep Saepudin appreciated the support from Polda Jambi in organizing HANI 2026. He emphasized that the annual commemoration on June 26 aims to raise global awareness about the dangers of drugs while strengthening prevention, rehabilitation, and enforcement efforts.

New Challenges from Synthetic Substances

He also highlighted the importance of close coordination between BNN and the police in dismantling drug networks in Jambi. At the same time, he urged the provincial government to consider regulations restricting e-cigarettes (vapes), as cases involving drug-laced liquids are increasingly being reported.

The 2026 HANI theme is: "Building a Healthy, Intelligent, and Strong Generation through the ANANDA-Bersinar Movement (National Anti-Drug Action for Drug-Free Children) toward Golden Indonesia 2045."

Drugs as a Serious National Threat

Jambi Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Krisno H. Siregar described drugs as a serious threat to national security that can only be addressed through cross-sector collaboration.

"The fight against drugs is not only the responsibility of the police, but of all elements of the nation," he stated.

He further reported that over the past six years, 4,727 drug cases involving 6,470 suspects have been solved in Jambi. In addition to enforcement actions, the police also emphasize rehabilitation for drug users.

He also urged the public to actively report drug-related crimes, assuring that the identity of informants will be protected.

Transparency and Public Accountability

The public destruction of evidence represents a form of state accountability, the Police Chief emphasized, ensuring that confiscated drugs do not re-enter circulation.

"Every single amount destroyed today is the result of intensive investigative work. However, the fight against drugs is a long-term mission," he said.

Deputy Governor Abdullah Sani reaffirmed the provincial government's commitment, particularly through strengthening families, public education, and the development of an integrated rehabilitation center in Kerinci, scheduled for completion in 2027.

The symbolic destruction was carried out with the participation of senior representatives from the police, military, BNN, and judiciary.

At the conclusion of the event, Polda Jambi expressed hope for increased public awareness and stronger inter-agency cooperation to ultimately free Jambi from drugs and contribute to the vision of "Golden Indonesia 2045." (IDNC)
