JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - The Jambi Regional Police (Polda Jambi), together with the Jambi Provincial Government, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), local administrations, farmer groups and other stakeholders, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening food security. The initiative focuses on simultaneous garlic planting, with the planting activity held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Kayu Aro, Kerinci Regency.
Jambi Police Chief Inspector General Krisno H. Siregar attended the event alongside Jambi Governor Dr. H. Al Haris, Commander of Military District 042/Gapu Brigadier General Nyamin, Kerinci Regent Monadi, Sungai Penuh Mayor Alfin, Commander of Military District 0417/Kerinci Lieutenant Colonel Inf. Eko Siswanto, Kerinci Police Chief AKBP Ramadhanil, Chairman of the Kerinci Regional House of Representatives Irwandri, and other relevant officials.The planting activity took place on land belonging to the Agri Mulyo farmer group in Tanjung Bunga Village, Kayu Aro District. Participants planted the Lumbu Hijau garlic variety across an area of 0.125 hectares.
In addition to the planting activity, the event included the distribution of social assistance to the farmer group. Polda Jambi and the participating agencies also provided free medical examinations for local residents. The services included checks of blood pressure, pulse, body temperature, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation, as well as basic tests for cholesterol, uric acid and blood sugar levels.Simultaneous garlic planting in 17 provinces is part of the government's efforts to increase domestic production of strategically important food commodities. At the same time, the program is intended to reduce Indonesia's dependence on imported garlic.
The involvement of various stakeholders in the program demonstrates that food security cannot be built by a single institution alone. "The police are certainly ready to support government programs to achieve food security and self-sufficiency. This is not solely the responsibility of the government, but requires cooperation among all stakeholders, including the TNI, Polri, regional governments, farmers and the entire community," the Jambi police chief said.According to Krisno, simultaneous garlic planting in various regions conveys an important message about building food security based on local potential. Each region, he said, can develop agricultural commodities that are suited to its geographical conditions and capabilities.
"What we are planting today is not only garlic, but also the spirit of food sovereignty. We want the community to be able to meet its food needs through domestic production," he emphasized.
Krisno stressed that the government and all relevant stakeholders must provide sustained support for the program. The success of the garlic cultivation initiative should not be measured solely by the planting activity, but by successful cultivation, harvest yields, increased production and improvements in farmers' living standards.
"This activity must not end with the planting. We must accompany it together, from the cultivation process through to harvest. If production increases and farmers become more prosperous, then the food sovereignty program will truly have a tangible impact on the community," Inspector General Krisno H. Siregar said.He also assessed Kerinci Regency and Sungai Penuh City as areas with significant potential for agricultural development, particularly in horticulture. This potential, he said, must be optimized by the government and all stakeholders so that it can generate economic benefits for the community.
According to Krisno, cooperation between regional governments, TNI-Polri, farmer groups and communities is a key factor in achieving sustainable agricultural development.
