MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The Global Village Foundation Bali, in partnership with Wheelchair For Kids Australia, has donated 20 specially adapted children's wheelchairs to the Deli Serdang government. The donation aims to support children with disabilities, particularly those with cerebral palsy, in leading more independent lives.
The handover took place during the event "Handover of Adaptive Wheelchairs for Children with Cerebral Palsy in North Sumatra 2026" on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall of the Governor's Residence in Medan.

Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, Chair of the Family Welfare Promotion Team (TP PKK) of Deli Serdang, expressed her appreciation for the international assistance.
"This initiative is very valuable and demonstrates great care for our children, who urgently need adaptive wheelchairs," she said.
Jelita hopes the wheelchairs will ease daily life and enhance the independence of children. She also expressed optimism that Deli Serdang will receive further support as the provincial government distributes additional wheelchairs in the future.
"We will provide the names of children who need wheelchairs to ensure the donation is fully utilized," she added.

Andy Bracey, Director of Global Village Foundation Bali, highlighted that the collaboration with Wheelchair For Kids Australia has been ongoing since 2016. Both organizations regularly provide free, adaptive wheelchairs to children with disabilities across Indonesia.
Globally, Wheelchair For Kids has supplied more than 70,000 wheelchairs to over 90 countries, while the Global Village Foundation has distributed over 4,000 wheelchairs in various regions of Indonesia since 2021.
Kahiyang Ayu Bobby Nasution, Chair of the TP PKK for North Sumatra Province, emphasized that the donation underscores the provincial government's attention to children's rights and enhances social participation for children with disabilities.
"We hope the wheelchairs help our children explore the world and actively participate in society," she said.
First Delivery and Plans for Future Distribution
Dwi Endah Purwanti, Head of the North Sumatra Office for Child and Family Development (P3AKB), explained that the first shipment includes 135 adaptive wheelchairs valued at 742,500,000 Rupiah. These wheelchairs have been distributed to children across 12 regencies and cities, including 20 children in Deli Serdang.
The Global Village Foundation plans to distribute an additional 1,000 adaptive wheelchairs in 2026, based on precise data of children with cerebral palsy who require them.
The North Sumatra provincial government hopes the donation will improve the quality of life for children with disabilities and promote inclusive child protection in the best interests of the children. (IDNC)
