MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The Provincial Government of North Sumatra, through its Communication and Information Office, has reaffirmed its full support for the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census.
The initiative aims to produce accurate and comprehensive economic data as a foundation for sustainable development planning, Monday, April 27, 2026Strong Institutional Support for Economic CensusThe Head of the Sectoral Statistics Division at the North Sumatra Communication and Information Office, Ika Hardina Lubis, expressed the province's commitment following her participation in an information session on the 2026 Economic Census. The event also featured the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) North Sumatra office, which introduced its Dashboard for Analysis and Reporting Indicators (Dalian) at the BPS North Sumatra building on Asrama Street, No. 179, Medan City.
Ika emphasized that the 2026 Economic Census represents a critical milestone in capturing a comprehensive picture of North Sumatra's economic landscape. The resulting data will serve as a key reference for more targeted and effective policy-making."The North Sumatra Communication and Information Office is ready to support information dissemination and cross-sector coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the 2026 Economic Census," she stated.
She also underlined the importance of public and business participation, noting that collaboration among all stakeholders is essential to reflect the real conditions of the regional economy."With strong cooperation, the 2026 Economic Census can make a tangible contribution to sustainable economic planning in North Sumatra," she added.
The Head of BPS North Sumatra, Asim Saputra, stated that the 2026 Economic Census aims to provide comprehensive data on economic structures, business characteristics, and the development of Indonesia's digital economy.
He noted that BPS now plays a central role as the national data manager, maintaining two continuously updated databases: the national integrated economic data system and the business register, both of which serve as the backbone of the 2026 census."Previously, BPS had more of a supporting role. Today, we carry a greater responsibility as the national data manager. Two key data sources are continuously updated: the national economic database and the business register, which forms the foundation of the 2026 Economic Census," Asim explained.
He also highlighted the importance of technology, modern data collection methods, and methodological improvements to ensure data accuracy. Active participation from all levels—from regional governments to institutions and businesses—is considered essential.
"We are grateful for the support of the Communication and Information Office, which has provided 12 videotron points for free public outreach on the 2026 Economic Census," he said.He further encouraged large and medium-sized enterprises to actively participate in the data collection process. The introduction of the "Ngisi Bareng" (Ngibar) application, to be launched by President Prabowo on May 1, 2026, is expected to simplify participation. The census will run from May to August 2026.
