MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM The City Government of Medan has reaffirmed its commitment to data-driven governance as a core strategy for regional development. The commitment was highlighted when Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas received a delegation from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Medan at City Hall on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

During the meeting, Mayor Rico Waas emphasized that data should not be viewed merely as numerical information, but as a strategic instrument for policy direction, particularly in maintaining economic stability and driving growth in Medan.

The mayor underscored the vital role of BPS as an early warning system for local government. According to him, the system enables authorities to detect economic trends at an early stage and respond with timely policy interventions.

"We hope that BPS Medan can provide early warning signals, such as which commodities or goods may experience price increases that could trigger inflation. This allows us to take preventive measures promptly," Rico Waas said, accompanied by Head of the Communication and Informatics Office of Medan, Arrahmaan Pane, and Head of Bappeda Medan, Ferri Ichsan.

Real-Time Investment Data Integration

Beyond economic stability, Mayor Rico Waas also called for stronger integration between BPS data and the Medan Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP).
