ACEH TENGAH | INDATANEWS.COM - A landslide temporarily blocked the Takengon–Celala road in Pepalang Hamlet, Kuyun Uken Village, Celala Subdistrict, Aceh Tengah Regency. After emergency personnel cleared the earth and debris, the vital route was reopened to two- and four-wheeled vehicles on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The Aceh Tengah Police (Polres Aceh Tengah), through the Celala Police Sector (Polsek Celala), monitored the removal of the landslide material while ensuring that traffic could continue safely during the operation. Officers were deployed at the scene to regulate passing vehicles and prevent potential traffic disruptions as well as further landslides.The landslide occurred on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). Heavy rain that had been falling in the area since around 4:00 p.m. triggered ground movement, sending earth onto the roadway and blocking the route.
The landslide covered approximately 20 meters of the road. The situation was further complicated by around 30 centimeters of standing water that had accumulated at the site.The Celala Police Sector monitored the operation to ensure the safety of both emergency personnel and road users. Officers also regulated traffic flow so that the clearing operation would not cause congestion or pose a danger to motorists.
Following completion of the clearing operation, two- and four-wheeled vehicles were able to pass along the Takengon–Celala road again. Although the route has been reopened, the affected section has not yet been completely cleared of the effects of the landslide.Traces of soil, rocks and gravel remain around the roadway. The condition could pose a particular hazard to road users traveling at high speeds or failing to pay sufficient attention to the condition of the road.
Police have therefore urged motorists to reduce their speed when passing through the affected area. Extra caution is especially necessary if rain resumes in Celala Subdistrict.
Aceh Tengah Police Chief AKBP Teguh Siswoyo, S.H., S.I.K., M.H., through Celala Police Chief IPDA Afrijalsyah, S.H., said officers would continue monitoring the situation at the site. Police are also coordinating with the BPBD, the Reje and local authorities of Kuyun Uken Village to ensure that further measures are properly carried out.
"We urge residents and road users to remain cautious when passing through the affected area, particularly if rain returns. There is still residual material around the roadway, and weather conditions must also be taken into consideration," he said.Celala Police officers are not only securing the clearing operation but also regulating traffic around the affected area. Police continue to monitor the situation to ensure vehicles can pass safely and to identify any new landslide material at an early stage.
Weather conditions are another factor requiring particular attention from road users. Heavy rainfall could once again increase the risk of ground movement in an area that has already been affected by a landslide.Aceh Tengah Police therefore urged the public not to underestimate the danger even after the Takengon–Celala road was reopened. Road users are advised to follow the instructions of emergency personnel and carefully assess road conditions before continuing their journey.

Emergency personnel also asked road users to follow instructions issued at the scene. This is important to ensure the safety of all road users, particularly while officers continue to monitor the area.Police are also maintaining coordination with the relevant authorities and local village representatives to monitor developments. If heavy rain occurs again, road users should be prepared for the possibility of earth, rocks or gravel falling onto the roadway.
With the reopening of the Takengon–Celala road, residents can now resume their activities as usual. Nevertheless, police have urged road users not to assume that the situation is completely safe, as remaining earth material and weather conditions may still affect road safety.People traveling along this section of road are urged to put safety first, adjust their speed and immediately notify emergency personnel if they observe signs of ground movement or other disruptions along the Takengon–Celala route.
