TANJUNGBALAI KARIMUN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ A fisherman has gone missing in the waters of Takong Hiu, Tanjung Balai Karimun, prompting an immediate search by the Tanjungpinang Search and Rescue (SAR) team.

The missing fisherman, 52-year-old Syamsir from Sungai Lakam Barat, reportedly experienced technical issues with his boat at coordinates 01° 11.965 N 103° 20.992 E. On Thursday, March 26, 2026, Syamsir set out at around 4:00 PM local time to catch Tenggiri fish. Later that night, at approximately 10:00 PM, he called his wife, Ibu Leni, reporting that his boat engine had failed due to an oil leak.
Despite this warning, Syamsir did not return home the following afternoon. Concerned for his safety, his family reported him missing to the Tanjung Balai Karimun SAR Station at 1:50 PM.
SAR Team Mobilizes Immediately
Upon receiving the alert, the SAR team promptly coordinated a rescue operation. At 2:00 PM, a six-member team was deployed with a Rescue Car Type II and a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) to the incident location. The search area is approximately 16.21 nautical miles southwest of the Tanjungbalai Karimun SAR Station along a course of 166.78 degrees. Rescue personnel were expected to reach the site by 3:10 PM and commence search operations.
