BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) successfully evacuated 11 people after a fire broke out aboard the fishing vessel KM Timbul Barokah 2 in the northern waters off Natuna on Thursday, April 16, 2026. The victims consisted of one captain and ten crew members.
The evacuation was carried out by the warship KRI WIR-379, following an initial rescue by another fishing vessel, KM Cahaya Abadi, which first removed the victims from immediate danger.
Rapid Response in Maritime Emergency
Commander of the Ranai Naval Base, Ady Dharmawan, stated that the swift response reflects the Navy's strong commitment to prioritizing human life at sea.Upon arrival at the Sabang Mawang Naval Post, all victims underwent immediate medical examinations. Despite experiencing minor injuries and trauma, all survivors were reported to be in stable condition.

Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been triggered by an oil stove that fell over due to high waves. The blaze quickly spread and completely destroyed the vessel.
