DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Government of Deli Serdang Regency has officially launched a free English and computer learning program, centralized at the Deli Serdang Regency Library. The initiative represents a strategic effort to strengthen reading culture while equipping children with essential skills increasingly relevant in the digital era.
The program was inaugurated by the Regency Literacy Ambassador of Deli Serdang, Ny. Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, and is designed for kindergarten and elementary school students. The event, held on Monday, June 22, 2026, was warmly welcomed by participants, who showed strong enthusiasm throughout the activities.Since the beginning of the program, the Deli Serdang Regency Library has been filled with a lively atmosphere and a strong spirit of learning. The children paid close attention to each session, particularly during introductions to basic English language skills and their first steps in computer literacy.
In her remarks, Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan emphasized that the program is not only focused on improving technical abilities but also on building a strong foundation for children's literacy skills. The library, she said, is expected to evolve into an active and enjoyable learning space that nurtures curiosity and reading interest among children.
"With the inauguration of free English and computer classes at the Deli Serdang Regency Library, I hope this marks a strong beginning in strengthening reading culture and providing children with the essential skills they need for the future," she stated.She further underlined that literacy goes beyond reading and writing, encompassing comprehension, critical thinking, and the ability to adapt to rapid technological development. According to her, children who read regularly tend to have broader perspectives and are better prepared to face future challenges.
"I hope more children in Deli Serdang will develop a love for reading, broaden their horizons, become confident, and grow into an intelligent and morally strong generation," she added.
During the event, she also awarded small tokens of appreciation in the form of notebooks to children who bravely demonstrated their English skills in front of other participants, recognizing their active participation and confidence.The program is expected to go beyond a formal activity and deliver long-term benefits in improving children's competencies in Deli Serdang.
The teaching method is interactive, allowing children not only to gain theoretical knowledge but also to apply it directly in practice. This was evident when participants confidently presented simple English sentences in front of their peers.
The Deli Serdang Regency Library is envisioned not merely as a repository of books, but as an active and inclusive educational center for the community, especially early-age learners.Through this initiative, the local government hopes to nurture a generation that is not only academically capable but also strong in character, confident, and competitive in the digital age.
Jelita also emphasized the crucial role of parents in supporting their children's learning process at home. Educational success, she noted, does not depend solely on educational institutions but also on active family involvement."I also thank the parents who continue to accompany and support their children's learning at home," she said.
