LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Preventing drug abuse and juvenile delinquency requires the commitment of schools, families, communities and law enforcement agencies. Legal awareness and a healthy social environment are essential to protecting young people from risky behaviour that could jeopardise their future.
The Chief of Labuhanbatu Selatan Police, AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., personally delivered legal awareness and public order education to students at SMA Negeri 2 Kotapinang, in Kotapinang District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency, on Monday, 2 November 2026.The event was held under the Polisi Peduli Pendidikan (Police Care for Education) programme and formed part of Labuhanbatu Selatan Police's efforts to strengthen legal awareness among students. The police also encouraged the younger generation to avoid drug abuse, brawls, gang conflicts, risky sexual relationships and other forms of juvenile misconduct.
The Police Chief was accompanied by IPDA Imam Munandar, S.H., Deputy Head of the Narcotics Unit IPDA Miko Siswoyo, S.H., the officer responsible for the Personnel Division IPDA Tampin Thomas Situmorang, S.H., the Head of the Internal Supervision Unit, and several other Labuhanbatu Selatan police officers. He reminded the students to build positive friendships and avoid being influenced into actions that violate the law or undermine the values of social life.
According to the Police Chief, true friends are not those who encourage others to engage in risky behaviour. Instead, genuine friends support one another, remind each other to do what is right and encourage each other to achieve their personal goals. He issued a particularly strong warning against experimenting with drugs, even out of curiosity or because of pressure from friends.
"Never try drugs simply because you are curious or because your friends encourage you to do so. Once you become trapped in drug addiction, you risk damaging your health, your education and even your future."Be a generation of young people with the courage to say no to drugs and all forms of juvenile misconduct," the Police Chief said.
He explained that drug abuse not only causes damage to health but can also undermine academic progress, destroy social relationships and deprive young people of opportunities for a better future.Students must therefore develop the courage to reject every form of negative influence. The ability to make independent and responsible decisions is an important part of protecting themselves from unhealthy social environments.

In his view, educational success cannot be measured solely by school grades and academic performance. Character, discipline, a sense of responsibility, integrity and respect for the law are equally important foundations for young people's future success.
He encouraged students to make the most of their youth by learning, exploring their creativity and developing their personal abilities. They should also respect teachers and parents, observe school rules and maintain good relationships with those around them."Use your youth to learn, express your creativity and achieve success. Respect your teachers and parents, follow school rules and do not allow yourselves to be drawn into actions that could harm you or others," he said in another important message to the students.
This message underlines the fact that developing qualified human resources should not focus solely on producing academically capable young people. Society also needs a generation with integrity, a sense of responsibility, social awareness and a willingness to respect the rules. In this regard, schools have a strategic role to play in character development. Close cooperation between teachers, parents, communities and the police is essential to ensuring that students receive consistent guidance and support.

On the occasion, Labuhanbatu Selatan Police also introduced the police emergency hotline, 110. Through this free service, members of the public can report emergencies, criminal offences and disturbances to public safety and order, or request police assistance.
Through this information campaign, the police aim to make communication between the public and security authorities easier. The service is specifically intended to include students who need assistance when facing security-related problems. The police also encouraged members of the public to contact the relevant officers without hesitation whenever they identify potential threats to public safety. Reports, however, should always be based on accurate and verifiable information.
For educational institutions, police visits to schools provide students with an opportunity to discuss legal matters directly with law enforcement officers. The law should not be viewed merely as a set of rules accompanied by penalties, but also as a guide for protecting oneself and others.Through the Polisi Peduli Pendidikan programme and the principle of Polisi Bersama Masyarakat (Police Working Together with the Community), Labuhanbatu Selatan Police reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation with educational institutions. The initiative also seeks to nurture a generation that is disciplined, strong in character, law-abiding and morally responsible.
Preventing drug abuse and juvenile misconduct requires sustained efforts and the commitment of all stakeholders. Parents must guide their children and set positive examples through their own behaviour. Teachers should encourage open communication with students, while communities must help create healthy social environments.Legal education in schools is an important first step that must be reinforced through continuous guidance and supervision. In this way, students will not only understand the risks associated with misconduct but also learn how to recognise and avoid potential dangers.
The educational session at SMA Negeri 2 Kotapinang took place safely and without incident. Police involvement in the school environment is intended to strengthen awareness that protecting the future of young people is a shared responsibility.Labuhanbatu Selatan Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public safety and order. The institution also pledged to uphold its responsibilities through good deeds, prompt, intelligent and consistent action, and sincerity. (IDNC)
