MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Medan Mayor, Rico Waas, has expressed his full support for the screening of the scouting-themed film titled "Pramuka", produced by PT Alamanda Production Jakarta. He views the audiovisual work as an effective medium to revive the interest of the younger generation in the scouting movement as a platform for character development in Indonesia.
The support was conveyed during an official reception for a delegation from PT Alamanda Production Jakarta at the Medan Mayor's official residence on Monday, July 6, 2026. The meeting served to discuss the planned screening and social introduction of the film "Pramuka", which is specifically targeted at students in Medan City.
During the discussion, Rico Waas highlighted the significant challenges of re-engaging young people in scouting activities today. In his view, conventional approaches are no longer sufficient to reach children in a fast-paced, digitally driven world filled with distractions.
"Getting children today interested in a scouting-themed film is both difficult and easy. The challenge is exactly the same as getting them to actively join the scouting movement," Rico Waas said.
He emphasized that educational content delivery strategies must adapt to current developments, including the use of films that have wide reach and are easily absorbed by young audiences.
Rico Waas also pointed to how the global film industry subtly integrates educational and character-building values into its works. As an example, he mentioned the animated film "Up".
"Behind its cheerful adventure storyline, the film carries a very strong message about the essence and values of the scouting movement," he explained.
According to him, this approach can serve as inspiration for producing scouting-themed films that are not only informative but also entertaining and emotionally engaging.
Furthermore, Rico Waas acknowledged that the scouting movement continues to face challenges in terms of visibility and public appeal. Nevertheless, it remains an important pillar of character education that fosters discipline, independence, and responsibility among young people.
While supporting the use of films as a promotional medium, he stressed that such efforts must not stand alone. Close collaboration is needed with on-the-ground initiatives, including optimizing digital platforms that are closely aligned with children's daily lives.
He also encouraged the organization of various scouting activities and competitions that are attractive, competitive, and tailored to the interests of today's students.
"The goal is to restore children's love and pride in participating in scouting activities," Rico Waas concluded.
Meanwhile, a representative of PT Alamanda Production Jakarta, Dessy Silvia, stated that the company is committed to producing films focused on strengthening youth character education. This year, the film "Pramuka" was officially launched as part of a branding initiative to increase the younger generation's interest in scouting activities.
"The aim is to increase our children's interest in participating in scouting activities," Dessy said.
She also expressed hope for full support from the Medan City Government, particularly the mayor, so that the planned outreach and screening program can be implemented optimally and reach as many students as possible.
The screening of "Pramuka" is planned to take place at Sun Plaza Cinema in Medan, involving principals from elementary and secondary schools across the city. The event is expected to become an important moment to strengthen the presence of the scouting movement among young people through a creative, media-based approach. (IDNC)
