MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Provincial Government of North Sumatra (Pemprov Sumut), led by Governor Bobby Nasution, is reinforcing strategic measures to accelerate the development of industrial and economic zones. This policy is part of broader efforts to position the industrial sector as a key driver of regional economic growth, while also supporting North Sumatra's contribution to maintaining national economic growth in the range of 6.7 to 7.1 percent.
The commitment was personally reaffirmed by Bobby Nasution during an audience meeting with the Danareksa Group and PT Kawasan Industri Medan (KIM) at the official residence of the Governor of North Sumatra on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman No. 41, Medan, on Monday, June 29, 2026. The meeting served as a strategic forum to accelerate investment and strengthen industrial development areas in the region."We continuously evaluate our BUMD so that they can optimize existing resources, maximize asset utilization, and improve professionalism. Together with BUMN and the central government, they will become even stronger," Bobby Nasution stated.
According to him, synergy between BUMD, BUMN, and the central government is a crucial factor in accelerating industrial development. This collaboration is expected not only to strengthen the region's economic structure but also to create a more competitive investment climate in North Sumatra.
Bobby further explained that the provincial government has prepared several strategic land plots for the development of new industrial zones. This initiative is also aimed at opening broader cooperation opportunities for private investors and institutional capital providers interested in investing in North Sumatra.
He stressed that faster investment realization would directly impact community economic activity, particularly through the creation of new and more evenly distributed employment opportunities."We truly hope this cooperation and development can be realized as quickly as possible so that the public can immediately feel the positive impact of industrial growth," Bobby Nasution said.
The North Sumatra government is currently focusing on accelerating the development of integrated industrial zones designed to meet long-term investment needs. The industrial sector is viewed as a vital instrument for strengthening the regional economic structure, particularly amid global economic dynamics.
The development of new industrial areas is also expected to create new economic growth centers across various regions in North Sumatra, ensuring that growth is not concentrated only in specific urban areas.
Meanwhile, Danareksa President Director Ngurah Wirawan stated that the central government will provide support in spatial planning for industrial zone development. However, technical implementation remains the responsibility of regional governments in collaboration with state-owned enterprises and strategic partners.
He expressed optimism that industrial zone development in North Sumatra could become a major growth driver. The region's potential is substantial and can be maximized through precise planning and strong cooperation."We are ready to collaborate and have prepared several steps to follow up on the provincial government's proposals, such as vertical industrial development in urban areas and horizontal development in regions with sufficient land availability," Ngurah Wirawan said.
He explained that this approach is tailored to the geographical and structural characteristics of North Sumatra, enabling sustainable land and resource utilization.Such cross-sector collaboration is seen as a crucial step to accelerate investment realization while strengthening the competitiveness of the regional economy at both national and global levels.
