MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – The Chairperson of the Family Welfare Empowerment Team (TP PKK) of Medan City, Airin Rico Waas, has expressed strong appreciation for the initiative by the Christian Education Council (MPK) of the North Sumatra–Aceh Region in organizing an art competition for preschool and elementary school children.
Airin conveyed her remarks during an audience with the MPK North Sumatra–Aceh executive board at the Medan Mayor's official residence on Monday, May 11, 2026. In the cordial meeting, she emphasized the importance of such programs in shaping early childhood character development.
Promoting Creativity and Character Building

Airin highlighted that competitions are not merely platforms for achievement, but also vital tools for nurturing creativity and shaping children's personalities from an early age.
"This program is very positive because it encourages children's creativity. We hope this competition is not only about winning, but also about forming children with strong character and creativity," Airin Rico Waas said.
She further noted that the initiative aligns with the program of Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas, which prioritizes strengthening early childhood literacy and educational development.
Around 200 Children Expected to Participate

MPK North Sumatra–Aceh Chairperson RE. Nainggolan stated that the competition is designed for children in early childhood education (PAUD), kindergarten (TK), and elementary school students from grades 1 to 3.
"The competition is scheduled to take place on May 28 at PRSU," said RE. Nainggolan.
He added that around 200 participants are expected to join various categories, including drawing, painting, storytelling, and solo singing.
According to him, the event aims to strengthen children's self-expression and confidence.

"We hope this competition can further enhance children's creativity, because being intelligent alone is not enough if they cannot express themselves," he added.

The audience was also attended by the Acting Head of the Medan Education and Culture Office, Laksamana Putra Siregar, and the Chairperson of Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) Medan, Ismiralda Wiriya Alrahman. (IDNC)
