MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM The Medan City Government has reaffirmed the importance of stronger regulation for press organizations within municipal governance structures. This statement was delivered by Arrahman Pane, Head of the Communication and Information Agency (Kominfo) of Medan City, representing Mayor Rico Waas at the deliberation meeting (Musyawarah) for the election of the Coordination Chair of the Persatuan Wartawan Pemko Medan (PWPM) for the 2026–2029 term.

The meeting was held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the TP PKK Medan City Building. In a unanimous decision, the forum elected Muhammad Edison Ginting as the new PWPM Coordination Chair following the completion of the candidate selection process and consensus among participants.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Alian Siregar, explained that three candidates initially collected registration forms. However, only one candidate submitted complete documents within the required deadline.

In his remarks, Arrahman Pane stressed the importance of establishing clear statutes and bylaws (AD/ART) as the legal foundation of the organization. He urged the newly elected leadership to promptly formulate these regulations to ensure structured and accountable program implementation.

"In the future, an AD/ART must be established for the PWPM coordination so that all work programs can be included in the municipal budget plan. This will be a responsibility of the coordination chair together with the board," Arrahman stated.

Term Extended to Three Years

Arrahman also conveyed Mayor Rico Waas's recommendation to extend the coordination chair's term to three years, aiming to improve program effectiveness and sustainability within the organization.

Edison Ginting Commits to Collaboration

In his first statement, Muhammad Edison Ginting expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and emphasized his commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Medan City Government.

He also voiced support for Mayor Rico Waas's vision, "Medan for All," which serves as a guiding principle for inclusive development and cross-sector collaboration in the city.
