FATHERS ACCOMPANY CHILDREN ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Aceh Provincial Regional Secretary M. Nasir attended the first day of school at MTsN 1 Banda Aceh, officially opened the Masa Taaruf Murid Madrasah (MATAMUDA) orientation program, and called on fathers to strengthen their role in supporting their children's education through the Gerakan Ayah Mengantar Anak Sekolah (GAMAS) initiative.

BANDA ACEH | INDATANEWS.COM - Aceh Provincial Regional Secretary, M. Nasir, has called on fathers to play a more active role in their children's education through the Gerakan Ayah Mengantar Anak Sekolah (GAMAS), or the Fathers Accompanying Children to School Movement.

He delivered the message on Monday, July 13, 2026, during the official opening ceremony of the new academic year and the Masa Taaruf Murid Madrasah (MATAMUDA) orientation program at MTsN 1 Banda Aceh. The event was attended by students, parents, teachers, and school officials.

The first day of school is considered a significant milestone for strengthening the role of families-particularly fathers-in supporting children's educational journey. The Aceh Provincial Government believes that active parental involvement from the very beginning helps build children's confidence while providing the emotional support they need to adapt to a new learning environment.

In his remarks, Nasir emphasized that parents' presence on the first day of school represents far more than a symbolic gesture. Their attention and companionship have a meaningful impact on children's psychological well-being and motivation to learn.

"Parents' presence on the first day of school may seem like a simple act. However, it sends a powerful message of support, affection, and reassurance that children do not have to face their educational journey alone," he said.

The Aceh Provincial Government regards the GAMAS initiative as an important step toward strengthening collaboration between families and educational institutions. The partnership is expected to create a supportive learning environment that enables children to grow into intelligent, resilient, and competitive individuals.

Strengthening Collaboration Between Families and Schools

According to Nasir, educational success depends not only on classroom instruction but also on the family's role in shaping character, discipline, and core values from an early age.

He therefore encouraged parents to maintain close communication with schools. Strong collaboration between families and teachers, he said, would make it easier to support students in both their academic development and personal growth.

Through the Gerakan Ayah Mengantar Anak Sekolah (GAMAS) initiative, the provincial government seeks to foster a new culture in which fathers actively share responsibility for supporting their children's education. Traditionally, this responsibility has often been associated primarily with mothers, despite the significant contribution fathers make to their children's emotional, mental, and social development.

Nasir added that fathers' active participation in school-related activities strengthens emotional bonds within the family while also boosting children's enthusiasm for learning. For that reason, the provincial government will continue supporting programs that reinforce cooperation among parents, schools, and students.

MTsN 1 Banda Aceh Recognized for Educational Excellence

During the event, Nasir also expressed appreciation to the entire MTsN 1 Banda Aceh community for consistently producing high-achieving students across various fields over the years.

He stressed that the success of an educational institution should not be measured solely by academic achievement. Character development, moral values, and responsible behavior are equally essential in preparing young people to become individuals with integrity, strong ethics, and a deep sense of social responsibility.

He noted that balancing academic excellence with character education forms the foundation for developing high-quality human resources. Madrasah graduates, he said, should not only possess outstanding academic competence but also be capable of making meaningful contributions to society.

The opening of the Masa Taaruf Murid Madrasah (MATAMUDA) orientation program also provided new students with an opportunity to become familiar with their school, teachers, regulations, and the learning culture that will guide them throughout their education at MTsN 1 Banda Aceh.

The orientation program is designed to help students adapt smoothly to their new learning environment, enabling them to begin their studies in a safe, welcoming, and motivating atmosphere from the very first day.

Education as a Shared Responsibility

Addressing students, teachers, and parents, Nasir encouraged everyone to make the most of educational opportunities, describing education as a long-term investment that plays a decisive role in shaping every child's future.

He also underlined that sustainable educational success can only be achieved through strong collaboration among families, schools, and the government. These three pillars, he said, must work together to create a healthy educational ecosystem that supports children's holistic development.

The Aceh Provincial Government, he added, will continue promoting programs that strengthen family resilience, recognizing that strong families form the foundation for developing capable and responsible human resources.

Through the Gerakan Ayah Mengantar Anak Sekolah (GAMAS) initiative, the provincial government hopes to further strengthen cooperation among families, schools, and government institutions in order to nurture a generation in Aceh that is intelligent, resilient, ethical, and guided by strong moral values to successfully face future challenges.
