READY TO CELEBRATE IWO’S 14TH ANNIVERSARY: The Ikatan Wartawan Online (IWO) prepares to celebrate its 14th anniversary on August 8, 2026, highlighting journalist professionalism as a concrete contribution toward the welfare of the nation.

JAKARTA | INDATANEWS.COM - The Online Journalists Association (Ikatan Wartawan Online/IWO) will celebrate its 14th anniversary on August 8, 2026. The professional organization for online media journalists has prepared various activities to commemorate the long journey of IWO's development and further strengthen the role of digital media as one of the pillars of democracy in Indonesia.

IWO was established on August 8, 2012, and has continuously worked to improve the quality of online journalism by strengthening journalistic competencies, implementing journalistic ethics, and promoting accurate and balanced information delivery.

In commemorating its 14th anniversary in 2026, IWO carries the theme, "IWO Journalists' Professionalism with an Impact on the Nation's Welfare." The theme serves as a reminder for all members to maintain professional integrity, prioritize reporting accuracy, and protect independence in carrying out journalistic duties.

Professionalism as the Foundation of Quality Journalism

Chairman of the IWO Central Executive Board, Dwi Christianto, S.H., M.Si., stated that professionalism among journalists is not merely an obligation in carrying out their profession but also a moral responsibility to produce journalistic works that provide benefits to the wider community.

According to him, the rapid development of information technology has created significant challenges for the media industry. The fast flow of information has also opened opportunities for the spread of misinformation, hoaxes, and social polarization.

"At the age of 14, IWO is increasingly convinced that journalist professionalism must provide a real contribution to the nation's welfare. We are committed to journalism that is accurate, balanced, and solution-oriented so that it can encourage progress, unity, and the prosperity of the Indonesian people," Dwi Christianto said.

Throughout its 14-year journey, IWO has produced thousands of journalistic works from members operating in various regions across Indonesia. The organization also regularly conducts programs to improve journalistic capabilities, including training, competency certification, and internal evaluations to ensure professional standards.

In addition to improving the quality of journalists, IWO actively develops partnerships with various stakeholders to encourage a healthy and responsible media ecosystem that can contribute positively to national development.

IWO Anniversary Program Strengthens Social Commitment

The 14th anniversary of IWO is not only a moment to reflect on the organization's journey but also an opportunity to strengthen social responsibility through various activities that provide direct benefits to the community.

The planned programs include a mangrove planting initiative as a form of environmental awareness, the main anniversary celebration in Bengkulu Province, and social assistance activities involving IWO journalists.

Through these activities, IWO aims to demonstrate that online media does not only play a role in delivering information but also carries social responsibility in supporting development and providing solutions for society.

Dwi Christianto added, "We invite all media industry stakeholders, the government, and the public to jointly support quality journalism. Only through high professionalism can the press become a force for good that enlightens, educates, and unites the nation."

He expressed hope that all elements of society would continue supporting the development of a professional and ethical press so that the media can optimally perform its functions in education, information dissemination, and social control.

IWO Calls on Members to Uphold Ethics and Organizational Values

Secretary General of the Ikatan Wartawan Online (IWO), Edi Winarto, also reminded all IWO regional boards and members to consistently uphold the Journalistic Code of Ethics (KEJ), maintain the dignity of the profession, and protect the organization's reputation.

Edi urged all IWO journalists to carry out their journalistic responsibilities with commitment, dedication, and sincerity. He emphasized that journalists must always prioritize honesty, truth, independence, and the interests of the public.

"Carry out your professional duties with full commitment, dedication, and sincerity. A journalist is obligated to uphold honesty and truth, remain independent, and represent the voice of public conscience," Edi Winarto said in his message on the occasion of IWO's anniversary.

He also encouraged all IWO members to build good relationships with various stakeholders, including the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), government institutions, and the community.

"Always maintain good relationships with all stakeholders, including Forkopimda and the public. Present information by upholding the values of Pancasila, social justice, and truth. Journalists must be able to become partners of the government while continuing to carry out their role as responsible social controllers," he added.

Through the celebration of its 14th anniversary, IWO reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the role of online media journalists as professional, independent, and responsible representatives of the press who can create a positive impact for the nation. (IDNC)
