MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Class I Medan Correctional Facility (Lapas Kelas I Medan) distributed thousands of hygiene items and uniforms to correctional inmates (Warga Binaan Pemasyarakatan/WBP) on Thursday, July 9, 2026. The initiative was carried out as part of efforts to fulfill the basic rights of inmates while improving standards of cleanliness, health, and well-being throughout their rehabilitation process inside the correctional facility.
The distribution of the supplies began at 10:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) and continued until all items had been distributed within the Lapas Kelas I Medan area. The facility's leadership and staff directly supervised the process to ensure the distribution was conducted in an orderly, equitable manner, and according to the needs of the inmates.The activity was attended by the Head of the Development Division (Kabid Pembinaan), Head of the Care Division (Kasie Perawatan), kitchen staff, Head of the Security Unit (Karupam), the internal PATNAL compliance team, as well as students from Poltekkes Medan who assisted with the implementation on site.
The event began with a direct briefing from the Head of the Development Division to the staff involved. During the briefing, the management of Lapas Kelas I Medan emphasized that the distribution of essential supplies represented the institution's ongoing commitment to ensuring the fulfillment of inmates' basic rights.
The correctional facility ensured that the availability of hygiene products and proper clothing remained a key priority in creating a healthy and comfortable living environment. The initiative also reflected the implementation of the Indonesian correctional system's duties, which focus not only on security but also on guidance, care, and services for inmates.Following the briefing, officers began distributing hygiene items and clothing to representatives from each residential block. The process was carried out systematically with the involvement of responsible officers to ensure all inmates' needs were properly addressed.

In addition to hygiene products, uniforms were also provided for WBP. The total number of clothing items distributed reached 12,024 pieces. The distribution of uniforms was intended to ensure that inmates had appropriate clothing throughout their guidance and rehabilitation process.
The provision of these basic necessities demonstrates Lapas Kelas I Medan's commitment to maintaining personal hygiene and ensuring adequate facilities for all residents of the correctional institution. Sanitation supplies play an important role in maintaining health conditions within residential areas and encouraging clean living habits among inmates.
Head of Lapas Kelas I Medan, Fonika Affandi, stated that all stages of the distribution process had been regularly documented. The documentation formed part of the official reporting process and served as an expression of transparency and accountability in carrying out correctional duties.
"All processes of this activity have been regularly documented and officially reported to the Directorate General of Corrections under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections in North Sumatra, as a form of performance accountability," Fonika Affandi said.Through this initiative, Lapas Kelas I Medan continues its efforts to improve the quality of services provided to inmates by ensuring the fulfillment of their basic needs.
