NIAS SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Nias Islands Court and Legal Journalists Forum (Forwakum Kepulauan Nias) once again demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by visiting the Mercy Indonesia Children's Home in Hilisondreka Village, Teluk Dalam District, Nias Selatan Regency, on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
During the visit, members of the journalists' forum spent time interacting with the children and caregivers while presenting food aid packages as a gesture of compassion and solidarity for those in need.The event took place in a warm and family-oriented atmosphere. The children welcomed every guest with joy and enthusiasm, creating a meaningful gathering filled with togetherness, mutual respect, and heartfelt care.
The visit was led by Forwakum Kepulauan Nias Chairman Eriusman Duha, accompanied by board members Syahputra Nainggolan, Ikhtiar Wau, Rumusan Laia, Alisama Zebua, and Nihaenalai Fau.He emphasized that the visit was not merely about delivering food assistance but also about bringing happiness, encouragement, and hope to the children, reminding them that they are not alone in pursuing their dreams.
The donated food packages are expected to help meet the orphanage's daily needs. However, Eriusman stressed that the greatest value of the initiative lies not in the material assistance itself but in the sincere spirit of compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility."To my dear younger brothers and sisters, stay motivated, study diligently, and never stop pursuing your dreams. Never feel alone because you have a big family here, and we will continue praying for your success and bright future," Eriusman said.
He expressed hope that the children would continue to embrace optimism, perseverance, and confidence as they work toward achieving a brighter future.In addition to distributing donations, members of Forwakum spent time engaging in personal conversations with the children, listening to their stories, offering words of encouragement, and creating a joyful and supportive environment.
He noted that the responsibility of a journalists' organization extends beyond reporting the news. It also includes contributing to society through humanitarian activities that create meaningful benefits for the community.
Supporting children living in orphanages, he added, is a shared moral responsibility. Through simple yet meaningful acts of kindness, Forwakum Kepulauan Nias hopes to encourage greater public awareness and concern for disadvantaged children.Throughout the event, the atmosphere remained warm and welcoming. Members of Forwakum and the children interacted openly, strengthening emotional bonds while fostering a stronger sense of togetherness.
The management of Mercy Indonesia Children's Home also warmly welcomed the visit and expressed appreciation for the attention and care shown to the children under its supervision.
The head of Mercy Indonesia Children's Home, Pastor Sudirman Gea, accompanied by Ringati Hia, conveyed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to Forwakum Kepulauan Nias for the visit and generous support.
He believes the gathering was not a coincidence but part of God's plan, bringing joy and encouragement to everyone at the orphanage.Pastor Sudirman also offered prayers and blessings for the leaders and members of Forwakum, wishing them good health, success, protection, and abundant blessings in both their professional and personal lives. He also prayed that their families would continue to receive happiness, strength, and sufficient provision.
He further explained that he and his wife, Ringati Hia, have been serving at Mercy Indonesia Children's Home since 2016. For nearly a decade, they have dedicated themselves to caring for and educating children from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.The orphanage currently provides care for 19 children, ranging from preschool age to senior high school students.
In addition to meeting the children's basic needs, the orphanage places strong emphasis on education, character development, and spiritual guidance to help them become independent individuals with brighter futures.Despite these efforts, Mercy Indonesia Children's Home continues to face significant financial challenges.
Pastor Sudirman revealed that the orphanage currently has no permanent donors providing regular financial support. In addition, government assistance has not resumed since it was discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.As a result, the orphanage relies heavily on voluntary contributions from local communities, churches, and private donors to meet the children's daily needs. Nevertheless, the management remains fully committed to providing the best possible care, education, and guidance for every child under its protection.
The visit by Forwakum Kepulauan Nias served as meaningful encouragement for both the caregivers and the children, demonstrating that many people continue to care about the welfare and future of disadvantaged children.Through this charitable initiative, Forwakum Kepulauan Nias hopes to strengthen the spirit of mutual assistance, solidarity, and humanity within society while encouraging more individuals and organizations to support orphanages and social institutions in carrying out their important mission.(IDNC)
