DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government in North Sumatra, Indonesia, is urging young people to strengthen their social commitment through practical initiatives that benefit the community. Blood donation is one way to make a difference. The appeal comes ahead of Indonesia's Youth Pledge Day, known as Hari Sumpah Pemuda, and aims to encourage young people to take an active role in humanitarian causes, promote social cohesion and strengthen the culture of mutual assistance.
The message was delivered by the Regent of Deli Serdang through Adela Sari Lubis, the regent's expert adviser on government affairs, law and politics. She attended a blood donation drive and social assistance programme on Sunday, 25 October 2026, organised by the Deli Serdang Forum for Friendship and Community (FORSI) at the Sampali Village Administration Office in Percut Sei Tuan District. The event forms part of community initiatives held in the run-up to Indonesia's Youth Pledge Day, celebrated annually on 28 October. Alongside helping to maintain blood supplies, the programme seeks to establish compassion and concern for others as an integral part of everyday life.
The Deli Serdang Regency Government considers youth participation in social activities important to regional development. Young people are not only the future generation responsible for development but can also promote solidarity, strengthen relationships between different sections of society and provide direct assistance to people facing difficult circumstances."We must continually make compassion a good habit through social activities, community work and concern for the people around us," she said.
Her message highlights the importance of building a lasting culture of mutual support. The regency government believes that grassroots social initiatives can strengthen community ties and foster a more inclusive and supportive environment.Blood donation is one example of humanitarian action through which people can make a direct contribution to saving lives. Blood supplies are needed in a wide range of medical emergencies, from treating road accident victims to caring for patients who require blood transfusions.
Participation in blood donation drives therefore benefits more than just recipients. It also raises awareness that humanitarian needs can only be met through collective efforts. This principle is particularly relevant to young people who want to contribute to regional development through activities with a tangible impact on society.
Adela hopes that young people in Deli Serdang will become even more involved in social and humanitarian activities. Their participation is essential to sustaining community initiatives over the long term, particularly programmes that promote solidarity and support people who need additional care and attention.
She said the development of Deli Serdang into a healthy, intelligent, prosperous and religious community requires the involvement of all sections of society. The government cannot fully achieve its development objectives without support from the public, social organisations, youth communities and other groups.By participating actively, young people can develop a stronger understanding of social challenges while learning to share responsibility for addressing them. Simple actions, such as donating blood, helping people in need or taking part in community work, can serve as first steps towards creating positive change in their surroundings.
Indonesia's Youth Pledge Day also provides an opportunity to strengthen unity in a diverse society. The values of national unity underpinning Indonesia's youth movement can be put into practice through activities that bring together people from different backgrounds to work towards a shared humanitarian goal.Commemorating the Youth Pledge should therefore go beyond an annual ceremonial event. Instead, it offers an opportunity to encourage young people to take practical action and involve them more closely in addressing the challenges facing their communities.

Through the initiative, FORSI Deli Serdang aims to organise activities that deliver tangible benefits to the community. Blood donation supports medical services and humanitarian assistance, while social engagement strengthens relationships between the organisers and local residents.
Irawan hopes that FORSI will expand its contribution to society through further social initiatives. He emphasised the importance of preserving the spirit of sharing and helping others. The organisation should not simply serve as a place for people to meet and exchange ideas, but should also deliver meaningful benefits to the wider community."Hopefully, FORSI will be able to do even more in the future and give the best it can to the people, particularly our country and our nation," he said.
This aspiration aligns with efforts to strengthen public participation through organisations and community groups working to address social challenges. Regularly organised humanitarian activities can also reach more people and encourage additional members of the public to get involved. The blood donation drive and social assistance programme in Sampali Village demonstrate how compassion can grow through simple acts when people work together. Support from the regency government, social organisations and young people is expected to strengthen the culture of mutual assistance and further expand social engagement across Deli Serdang.
Indonesia's Youth Pledge Day thus provides an opportunity to reaffirm the role of young people in building a united, compassionate and humanitarian-minded society. Through practical action and sustained participation, the principle of unity can be translated into tangible benefits for the community. (IDNC)REPORTER: Edi Saputra | EDITOR: Fik Sagala
