MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Regional Executive of the Muhammadiyah Student Association in North Sumatra (DPD IMM Sumut) has stepped up its organisational consolidation ahead of the association's 21st National Congress. At a regional coordination meeting held in Medan on Friday, 23 October 2026, 14 branch committees (PC IMM) from across North Sumatra came together to pool ideas, strengthen solidarity among members and discuss the organisation's future direction at national level.
The meeting also resulted in a joint agreement by the 14 branch committees to support and nominate Rahmat Taufiq Pardede, chairman of DPD IMM Sumut, as a candidate for the formatur committee at the 21st IMM National Congress. The support is intended to ensure that the concerns of members at regional level are represented nationally while strengthening the participation of North Sumatran members in the association's national leadership process. The consolidation was not limited to backing a candidate for the formatur committee. It also provided the branch committees with an opportunity for open dialogue and constructive proposals on the organisation's future. DPD IMM Sumut aims to ensure that the National Congress serves as a forum for exchanging ideas, producing strategic decisions and strengthening IMM's role as a progressive Islamic student movement.
Rahmat Taufiq Pardede, chairman of DPD IMM Sumut, called on all branch committees to contribute actively to preparations for the 21st IMM National Congress by putting forward constructive ideas and considered proposals. He said regional consolidation was strategically important because it strengthened unity among members while bringing together the concerns of different areas across North Sumatra.
Rahmat emphasised that the National Congress should not be viewed merely as a process for changing the organisation's leadership. Rather, it offers members an important opportunity to determine the future direction of the IMM movement and ensure that the association remains relevant amid social change, broader transformations and the many challenges facing students and society."All members should use the National Congress as a forum for competing ideas and exchanging views to build an even more progressive IMM. This consolidation is important to ensure that regional concerns are represented and incorporated into the future direction of the IMM movement," was the message conveyed at the meeting.
Through this call, DPD IMM Sumut is encouraging every branch committee to play an active and substantive role in the organisation's decision-making process. Members should not merely attend the National Congress but also prepare their own proposals, present the needs of their respective regions and develop ideas capable of strengthening the movement at national level.
Ihya Rizki, chairman of the Muhammadiyah Student Association's National Executive (DPP IMM) and head of the organising committee for the IMM National Congress, also attended the consolidation meeting. He provided guidance and shared recommendations with participants. His presence strengthened coordination between regional and national leadership in preparation for the organisation's highest deliberative and decision-making assembly.
On the same occasion, Ihya Rizki handed over the official resolution on the restructuring of DPD IMM Sumut's leadership, together with the resolution establishing the IMM branch committee in Simalungun (PC IMM Simalungun). The delivery of both documents forms part of efforts to reinforce the organisation's structures and expand the reach of the IMM movement across North Sumatra. With the establishment of PC IMM Simalungun, the number of IMM branch committees in North Sumatra has risen to 14. The new branch is expected to create additional opportunities for developing future leaders, improve coordination among members and strengthen students' contributions to society.
Expanding the organisation's structures is important for the long-term continuity of the student movement. With more orderly leadership arrangements and a growing network of branch committees, IMM is better positioned to bring members together, circulate ideas and implement its programmes more effectively. The guidance from the national leadership and the handover of the resolutions are also part of preparations for the 21st IMM National Congress. DPD IMM Sumut regards institutional strengthening and member consolidation as two essential prerequisites for maintaining continuity in the organisation's work.

The support also creates an opportunity for members in North Sumatra to play a greater role in determining the organisation's future leadership and strategic direction. Through this involvement, regional concerns are expected to receive proper consideration and discussion during the National Congress.
At the same time, DPD IMM Sumut has stressed that consolidation must extend beyond reaching agreement on a candidate for the formatur committee. The organisation needs sustained cooperation, open communication and constructive exchanges of ideas to ensure that every decision strengthens solidarity among its members. This shared commitment places dialogue and solidarity at the centre of preparations for the National Congress. Each branch committee is expected to continue discussions, present its position based on the needs of members in its area and contribute ideas that support the organisation's further development.
For IMM in North Sumatra, regional consolidation provides an opportunity to align local priorities with the organisation's needs at national level. The process also tests members' ability to reach common ground without overlooking differing viewpoints that could enrich the discussion.Through this forum, DPD IMM Sumut has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the 21st IMM National Congress and contributing to its successful organisation and the adoption of strategically important decisions for the association. The congress's success should not be measured solely by whether the organisation's highest deliberative assembly proceeds properly. Equally important are the emergence of fresh ideas, leadership grounded in integrity and work programmes that respond to the needs of members and society.
Through strong consolidation, IMM aims to uphold its role as a progressive Islamic student movement, expand its contribution to society and respond to contemporary challenges through critical thinking and practical action. The collective concerns voiced by North Sumatra are expected to help shape a more inclusive, dynamic and forward-looking organisation. (IDNC)REPORTER: M. Alzi Santoso | EDITOR: Fik Sagala
