DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Government of Deli Serdang Regency has reinforced its commitment to urban improvement through concrete action to reorganize overhead telecommunication cables that have long contributed to visual clutter along major thoroughfares. Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan personally led the symbolic cutting of overhead cables on Jalan Diponegoro, marking the official launch of a comprehensive infrastructure arrangement program.
The symbolic cable-cutting ceremony was more than a formal event, serving as a tangible milestone in the local government's efforts to create a safer, cleaner, and more orderly urban landscape. The initiative forms part of an ongoing program implemented since April 2026, in collaboration between the Deli Serdang Government and the North Sumatra chapter of the Indonesian Telecommunications Network Providers Association (APJATEL)."Since April, we have started organizing previously unregulated overhead cables. Around four kilometers of network have been successfully restructured without using APBD funds," he said.
The local government has adopted a collaborative approach with telecommunications providers, ensuring that the program remains efficient, practical, and cost-effective. This model also demonstrates that urban infrastructure development can be achieved without relying entirely on public funding.
The Regent stressed that the initiative is not merely focused on aesthetics, but also on improving public safety and comfort. According to him, unmanaged overhead cables pose potential hazards and reduce the quality of public space utilization.
"This program will continue to be implemented in stages across other locations. It is not only about order, but also about safety and comfort for the community," he stated.He further highlighted that the initiative aligns with the national movement introduced by Indonesian President H. Prabowo Subianto, known as the "Gerakan Indonesia ASRI (Aman, Sehat, Resik, Indah)," which promotes the development of clean, safe, and livable urban environments.
The Regent also called on the public to actively support the ongoing urban restructuring program. He emphasized that the success of such initiatives depends not only on government action but also on community involvement.
"I ask all residents to support this program so that the implementation can proceed smoothly and provide collective benefits," he added.This statement underscores the importance of synergy between government and society in achieving sustainable regional development.
"We fully support the overhead cable arrangement program in Deli Serdang as part of our joint collaboration with the local government," he said.
This cooperation reflects a strengthened partnership between the public sector and telecommunications providers in advancing integrated and sustainable infrastructure development.Five Major Roads Designated as Pilot Project
As an initial phase, the government has designated five major roads as pilot locations for the overhead cable restructuring program. These include Jalan Sutomo, Jalan Diponegoro, Jalan Thamrin, Jalan Sudirman, and Jalan Ahmad Yani.The pilot project is expected to serve as a model for broader implementation across the regency, supporting the gradual transformation toward a more organized, modern, and safe urban environment in Deli Serdang.
