BANDA ACEH | INDATANEWS.COM - The Government of Aceh has expressed deep concern following an incident involving the ferry KMP Aceh Hebat 2 at Ulee Lheue Harbor on Friday, June 12, 2026. Authorities confirmed that cadets from Malahayati Maritime Polytechnic and the vessel's crew were involved in the event, which is now under close review.

Government spokesperson Nurlis Effendi said regional authorities moved quickly once the incident was reported, prioritizing monitoring efforts and ensuring immediate care for all affected individuals.

He emphasized that the government of Aceh extends its sympathy to the cadets and crew, while placing the highest priority on safety and recovery.

Coordinated Emergency Measures

The Aceh government has instructed all relevant regional agencies to coordinate closely in handling evacuation procedures and medical treatment.

Key institutions, including the Transportation Agency of Aceh, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, and the Harbourmaster and Port Authority of Malahayati (KSOP Malahayati), worked alongside medical teams to ensure rapid response and patient care.

Officials stressed that coordination also extends to hospitals and port operators to support full recovery efforts for those affected.

The incident has renewed attention on the importance of strict safety compliance in Aceh's maritime transport sector. Officials urged operators to improve crew readiness, safety equipment, and emergency protocols to ensure safer navigation across the region.
