MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution is taking steps to tighten regulations on e-cigarettes amid growing concerns that some vape products are being used to conceal narcotic substances. The provincial government is currently increasing surveillance while preparing a regional regulation to restrict vape use in public spaces.
Governor Bobby Nasution has been collecting detailed information on the circulation of vape products allegedly containing illegal drugs. The former Mayor of Medan is reportedly drafting a local regulation aimed at curbing the spread of such dangerous products in society.
Speaking before thousands of participants at a religious gathering of the Al-Hidayah community at the Al Mashun Grand Mosque, Bobby reiterated warnings about the dangers of so-called "drug vapes." The event was also attended by renowned preacher Das'ad Latif.

"These vibrating vapes look almost identical to regular e-cigarettes. That is why we are planning a regional regulation to prohibit the use of vapes in public spaces. Our children must not become victims," Bobby said.
He emphasized that the growing circulation of such products poses a serious threat, particularly to young people, as they are difficult to distinguish from conventional e-cigarettes.
Call for Stronger Action Against Drug Networks
Beyond regulatory measures, Bobby Nasution also urged law enforcement agencies to impose strict punishments on drug syndicates. He stressed that drug kingpins must face severe penalties to create a strong deterrent effect.

Government Intensifies Prevention Efforts
The North Sumatra provincial government is currently strengthening its anti-drug strategy. In addition to legal measures, authorities are increasing public awareness campaigns and reinforcing enforcement actions against illegal drug distributors. (IDNC)
