MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The volunteer organization Relawan Parhobas has expressed its full support for North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution regarding the proposed regional regulation (Perda) banning the use of e-cigarettes, or vape, in public spaces.
Growing Support for Public Health MeasuresParhobas views the initiative as a crucial step toward strengthening preventive measures against the misuse of harmful substances in society. The group believes that firm regulations are necessary, particularly to better protect younger generations from potential risks.

Vape Concerns Over Emerging Drug Risks

"This is no longer just a trend or lifestyle issue. We are facing a drug emergency. The effects of drugs delivered through vape can even be stronger than other substances," he said.

Beyond supporting the vape ban policy, Parhobas also urged stricter preventive measures, including comprehensive and unannounced urine drug tests for civil servants, contract workers, and executives in state-owned enterprises.
According to Jantison, such tests should be conducted without prior notice to ensure transparency and prevent manipulation."The implementation should only be known by the governor. No announcements—so the results remain honest and cannot be influenced," he emphasized.

Parhobas stressed that the proposed regulation is an important effort to safeguard the youth of North Sumatra. Combating drug abuse, they said, must be a shared responsibility between the government and society.
