BANDA ACEH | INDATANEWS.COM- The Banda Aceh City Council (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Kota/DPRK) has urged the Banda Aceh City Government to immediately redesign the green space beneath the flyover bridge at the Simpang Surabaya intersection through the relevant agencies. The DPRK considers the improvement necessary as the park area, which currently appears dry and poorly maintained, affects the city's visual appeal and urban aesthetic.
The DPRK Banda Aceh has called on the city administration to prepare a comprehensive redesign plan involving several relevant agencies. The objective is to restore the function of the park as a comfortable, orderly public space that can once again be utilized by the community. The recommendation was delivered by the Budget Committee (Badan Anggaran/Banggar) of the DPRK Banda Aceh during the presentation of its official statement before Mayor Illiza Sa'aduddin Djamal and the heads of the city government's organizational units (OPD). The session was held as part of the DPRK Banda Aceh plenary meeting to discuss comments, proposals, and recommendations from Banggar regarding the draft Qanun regulation (Raqan) on the Mayor's Accountability Report (LKPJ).
The plenary session was held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the DPRK Banda Aceh building. The meeting was chaired by First Deputy Speaker of the DPRK Banda Aceh, Daniel Abdul Wahab. Also attending were DPRK Banda Aceh Speaker Irwansyah, ST, and Second Deputy Speaker Musriadi Aswad. The Banggar statement was delivered by M. Zidan Al Hafidh, S.Ked., M.M., a member of the Budget Committee from the PAN faction. In his statement, Banggar not only addressed the condition of the park beneath the Simpang Surabaya flyover but also highlighted various challenges related to urban development and infrastructure services in Banda Aceh.
The Banggar of the DPRK Banda Aceh urged the city government to pay greater attention to the importance of public open spaces, including the park beneath the Simpang Surabaya flyover. According to Banggar, the area needs to be redesigned so that it no longer creates an impression of neglect while providing added value for the surrounding environment.
The DPRK emphasized that parks play an important role in enhancing the city landscape while providing public spaces for residents. Therefore, the city government, together with relevant agencies, must develop concrete measures to transform the area into an attractive and comfortable green space. In addition to the Simpang Surabaya flyover area, Banggar also highlighted the limited availability of public green spaces (RTH) in Banda Aceh. The city government was encouraged to protect and regularly maintain existing green areas so their ecological and social functions can be preserved.
Banggar also gave special attention to the potential development of Taman Bustanussalatin. The park is considered an important public space that could be further developed as both a green area and a center for community activities within the city.According to Banggar, revitalizing Taman Bustanussalatin would improve the quality of public spaces and provide greater benefits for residents of Banda Aceh.
Apart from issues related to parks and green spaces, the Banggar of the DPRK Banda Aceh called on the city government to ensure the quality of all completed and ongoing construction projects. The DPRK stated that infrastructure projects must meet applicable standards because they represent long-term regional assets.
Banggar also urged the Banda Aceh Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (Dinas Pekerjaan Umum dan Penataan Ruang/PUPR) to strengthen coordination with the Aceh Provincial Government in addressing road sections that have not yet received repairs.According to the DPRK, unresolved road problems remain among the most frequent complaints from residents. Therefore, cooperation between different levels of government must be improved so infrastructure issues can be addressed more quickly and effectively.
Furthermore, the DPRK requested the PUPR Agency to improve its data collection system or database regarding the condition of roads, drainage systems, and other public works-related issues."We ask PUPR to strengthen the database for roads, canals, and other public works issues faced by residents. One example is the road in Gampong Mulia, which is immediately flooded even after short rainfall. With a reliable database, problems can be handled more quickly," Zidan said.
Banggar considers a complete and accurate database an important foundation for determining priorities so infrastructure problems can be resolved more efficiently and precisely. In addition to increasing supervision, Banggar asked the government to conduct an assessment of underpass elevations to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season. Such an analysis is considered important to ensure infrastructure continues to function optimally and reliably serves the community.
The DPRK Banda Aceh hopes that all Banggar recommendations will be taken into consideration by the city government in order to further improve the quality of urban development and public services.Through careful planning, continuous monitoring, and stronger cooperation among government agencies, the administration is expected to create high-quality infrastructure while maintaining public spaces that are comfortable, functional, and beneficial for residents.
