North Sumatra Halts Galian C Mining Operation in Pandan Despite SIPB Permit

MINING OPERATION HALTED: The North Sumatra Provincial Government confirms that Galian C extraction activities in Pandan, Tapanuli Tengah are not yet permitted despite an SIPB license.

TAPANUL TENGAH | INDATANEWS.COM The North Sumatra Provincial Government has confirmed that "Galian C" extraction activities along Jalan Baru Pandan in Tapanuli Tengah Regency are not allowed to proceed for now, despite the company holding a SIPB mining permit.

The decision was made after authorities found that key requirements, particularly essential environmental documentation, had not yet been fully completed.

Permit Issued, Environmental Requirements Incomplete

The Integrated One-Stop Service (PTSP) Coordinator at the North Sumatra Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Agency (DPMPTSP), Abdul Aziz, stated that although the SIPB permit had been officially issued, the company has not yet submitted complete environmental documentation.

"As long as the documents are incomplete, operations should not be started," he said on Monday, May 18, 2026.

He emphasized that ongoing activity at the site is considered non-compliant with regulations and is currently under further review by relevant authorities, including a joint inspection team and the North Sumatra Energy and Mineral Resources Agency (ESDM).

DPMPTSP Calls for Immediate Suspension of Activities

DPMPTSP North Sumatra has urged a full suspension of all mining activities at the location until all regulatory requirements are fulfilled, especially mandatory environmental permits.

Abdul Aziz stressed that operating without complete documentation poses both legal and environmental risks and therefore cannot be tolerated.

ESDM: CV Napogos Not Yet Authorized to Operate

Head of the ESDM regional office for Humbang, Tapanuli, and Nias areas, Ahmadsyah Nasution, clarified that the site is managed by CV Napogos Berkarya Jaya. While the SIPB permit has been in place since 2023, crucial requirements—particularly environmental approvals—remain incomplete.

"In short, mining activities are not permitted at this time," he stated firmly.

Previously, residents had raised concerns over the use of heavy machinery in the area, warning of potential environmental damage and an increased risk of landslides along Jalan Baru Pandan. (IDNC)
