Survivor of Sembahe Landslide Receives Intensive Care as Deli Serdang Officials Ramp Up Disaster Response

DELISERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM ~ Sehat br Tarigan, a 65-year-old woman, is the sole survivor of the landslide that struck Sembahe Village, Sibolangit District, North Sumatra, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. She is currently receiving intensive care at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Pancur Batu in Deli Serdang.

Local Leaders Ensure Medical and Family Support

The Regent (Bupati) of Deli Serdang, Asri Ludin Tambunan, along with Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo and representatives from the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), visited the survivor to ensure she receives optimal medical treatment and to support her family.

Asri Ludin emphasized that the medical staff provides the best possible care, with all treatment costs fully covered by the Deli Serdang government.

He also expressed his condolences for the victims who lost their lives in the landslide.

"InsyaAllah we will assist you; please stay patient," he said.

Rapid Emergency Response

Following the hospital visit, Asri Ludin and the Forkopimda team inspected the disaster site. The local government is working to ensure rapid emergency response measures and support for affected residents.

"On behalf of the government, we extend our condolences and make sure all the needs of the victims are met. We continue to coordinate with all relevant agencies for fast and precise assistance," Asri Ludin explained.

The landslide occurred on the evening of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, behind RM Dina Mala in Sembahe, affecting nine houses. Five people died, while one injured person is receiving treatment at RSUD Pancur Batu.

  4. Rosmawati br Ginting (F/49)
  5. Jamilah br Ginting (F/48)

Injured survivor:

  1. Sehat br Tarigan (F/65)

The Deli Serdang government has established emergency stations, medical services, communal kitchens, and temporary shelters.

"Although most families are staying with relatives, we ensure all basic needs are met," Asri Ludin stressed.

Landslide Prevention and Safety Measures

A joint team has installed barriers at the site to prevent residents from entering.

"We are awaiting assessments from the military (TNI), police (Polri), Basarnas, and BPBD to clear the landslide area. The nearby natural bathing site remains temporarily closed to prevent secondary landslides," Asri Ludin said.

Additionally, the government is implementing preventive measures at five smaller landslide-prone areas in Sibolangit, including Desa Bingkawan, where road usage is at risk.

"Clearing hazardous areas is underway. Once soil stability is confirmed, we plan to widen slopes and build retaining walls," Asri Ludin added, urging residents in hilly areas to stay alert and report any potential dangers.

Medan Police Chief, Kombes Pol Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak, confirmed that response teams are intensively working to ensure safety and emergency operations.

"Together with TNI, Polri, Basarnas, and BPBD, we coordinate the rescue efforts. The landslide area remains restricted due to unstable ground. We ask the public to stay away," he emphasized. (IDNC)
