BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM - The Barelang City Police (Polresta Barelang) have successfully solved a case of violent theft (Curas) or robbery within the jurisdiction of the Nongsa Police Sector (Polsek Nongsa), Batam. During the operation, officers arrested a suspected perpetrator identified by the initials AS (36).
The arrest involved a joint team from the Jatanras Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division (Satreskrim) of Polresta Barelang, along with investigators from Polsek Nongsa and Polsek Bengkong.In addition to apprehending the suspect, police also seized several pieces of evidence allegedly used during the crime. Another suspect with the initials I., who is believed to have been involved in the robbery, remains on the police wanted list (DPO).
The case was uncovered on Thursday, July 16, 2026, after officers received the victim's report and conducted a series of investigations to identify the perpetrators.The operation also involved Panit Opsnal Reskrim Polsek Nongsa Ipda Baharudin Simanullang, members of the Polsek Nongsa operational investigation team, personnel from the Jatanras Satreskrim Polresta Barelang, and operational officers from Polsek Bengkong.
At the time of the incident, the 17-year-old victim was riding a Honda Beat motorcycle with his biological mother. While passing through the location, they were followed and forced aside by two men riding a blue Honda Verza motorcycle.
One of the perpetrators, who was seated on the back of the motorcycle, then pulled out a knife and cut the strap of the victim's shoulder bag. After taking the bag, both suspects fled the scene.The stolen bag contained several important belongings, including an Indonesian identity card (KTP), BPJS card, Mandiri Bank ATM card, and cash amounting to Rp1.7 million.
Following the incident, the victim reported the case to the Integrated Police Service Center (SPKT) of Polsek Nongsa for further investigation and legal action by authorities.
After receiving the report, the joint Polresta Barelang team carried out an intensive investigation to identify the perpetrators and locate their whereabouts. The investigation eventually led officers to a suspect in the Bengkong Telaga Indah area, Sadai Subdistrict, Bengkong District, Batam.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at approximately 22:40 WIB, officers arrived at the location and successfully arrested AS.During the initial interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had committed the robbery or violent theft together with his accomplice, I., who is currently still being pursued by police.
"The suspect admitted to committing the crime of violent theft or robbery together with an accomplice identified by the initials I., who is currently listed as a person on the wanted list (DPO)," police stated based on the preliminary investigation results.After his arrest, AS was taken to Polsek Nongsa headquarters for further questioning and legal proceedings in accordance with applicable regulations.
During the investigation, police secured several pieces of evidence, including a blue Honda Verza motorcycle, a black Honda helmet, and a grey LTD helmet.Investigators also revealed that the suspect admitted to committing similar crimes with his accomplice at three other locations. These included the Symphony Land Nongsa area, Jalan Hang Jebat near the PJR Batu Besar intersection in Nongsa District, and the Basecamp Roundabout area in Batu Aji District.
For his actions, AS is charged under Article 479 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP). He faces a maximum prison sentence of up to nine years.
Nongsa Police Chief Kompol Eriman stated that the resolution of this case was the result of cooperation and coordination between various police units in responding to reports from the public."We are committed to taking firm action against anyone who threatens public security. The successful resolution of this case demonstrates the police's seriousness in providing safety and security for the community. We are also continuing further investigations, including the search for another suspect who remains on the DPO list, so that he can be held accountable according to the applicable laws," said Kompol Eriman.
Kompol Eriman emphasized that police investigations will continue to locate and arrest the fugitive suspect. These efforts aim to ensure that all parties involved in the crime face legal responsibility.Polresta Barelang also appealed to the public to remain vigilant during daily activities, especially when carrying valuable belongings while traveling on the road.
