DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan personally inspected the red onion harvest season on Monday, July 6, 2026, and took part in the harvesting activity together with the Jaya Tani Farmers Group in PW Asri A Hamlet, Sidodadi Ramunia Village, Beringin District.

The harvest activity was part of the Deli Serdang Regency Government's efforts to continue strengthening the agricultural sector, particularly red onion cultivation, which is increasingly being developed as one of the key centers for regional food production.

On the occasion, Asri Ludin also distributed various agricultural tools and machinery (Alsintan) to farmer groups. The assistance is expected to increase agricultural productivity while improving the welfare of farmers.

The agricultural equipment provided included a combine harvester, a four-wheel tractor, an electric hand sprayer, and hybrid rice seeds for the Mandiri Farmers Association (Gapoktan). Meanwhile, the Sri Abadi Tani Gapoktan received a rotavator machine and a water pump set. The Asrintani and Maju Tani farmer groups each also received a water pump set.

The red onion harvest this year was carried out on an area of seven Rantai, with an estimated production output of around 1.3 tons. Through its regional-owned company (BUMD) Bhinneka Perkasa Jaya, the Deli Serdang Regional Government directly collected the harvest and purchased farmers' red onions at a price of Rp24,000 per kilogram.

Si PANDAI Strengthens Agricultural Data Management System

During a dialogue with farmers, Asri Ludin emphasized that the regional government's efforts were not only focused on increasing agricultural production but also on ensuring that farmers' harvests had clear market access and provided reasonable profits.

According to him, the Deli Serdang Government is currently developing Si PANDAI (Sistem Pantau Data Pangan Indonesia), an Indonesian food data monitoring system aimed at improving the management and control of the agricultural sector.

"The Si PANDAI system that we are currently developing will make it easier for the government to know when farmers harvest, who buys their products, and where these products are marketed. Through this system, the government can help secure markets while maintaining the price stability of agricultural commodities," Asri Ludin explained.

He said the red onion harvest in Sidodadi Ramunia was one of the initial implementations of the Si PANDAI system. Through this platform, various agricultural data will be integrated, including cultivation areas, planting schedules, and harvest periods.

These data will later serve as a basis for government assistance programs and policy-making to better ensure regional food supply security.

Asri Ludin also expressed his appreciation for farmers in Sidodadi Ramunia who have independently managed their agricultural businesses using their own resources. However, he acknowledged that farmers continue to face challenges, particularly when market prices for agricultural products decline.

"When harvest product prices fall, farmers often still depend on middlemen. This situation must be improved in the future. The government is present so that farmers are not disadvantaged when prices decline. We want farmers' harvests to have clear markets and fair prices," he said.

Agricultural Extension Officers Asked to Coordinate Planting Plans

Besides strengthening agricultural product marketing, Asri Ludin highlighted the important role of agricultural extension officers (PPL) in assisting farmers.

He instructed PPL officers to actively prepare planting patterns and harvest schedules so that large harvest volumes would not enter the market simultaneously. Better planning, he said, is crucial to maintaining agricultural commodity price stability.

"If agricultural equipment is still insufficient, report it immediately. PPL officers must coordinate planting patterns so that production remains stable and farmers do not suffer losses," Asri Ludin stated.

The Deli Serdang Government is also giving special attention to the development of a red onion production center in Sidodadi Ramunia Village. The area currently has around 75 hectares of cultivation land.

One of the planned support programs is the construction of a red onion seed storage facility measuring 5 x 10 meters. The facility is expected to help farmers maintain seed quality and support sustainable red onion production in the region.

In addition to providing agricultural machinery and constructing the seed storage facility, the regional government will gradually strengthen the agricultural sector through infrastructure development and other supporting facilities.

Deli Serdang Improves Agricultural Infrastructure

To support community agricultural activities, the Deli Serdang Government is also ensuring improvements to road infrastructure in Beringin District.

Asri Ludin explained that road repairs are a priority to improve public mobility, particularly in facilitating the transportation of agricultural products from production centers to markets.

"Roads that are used as transportation routes will be improved this year. In Beringin District, ten infrastructure projects will be implemented this year," he said.

Through these various programs, the Deli Serdang Government hopes that the agricultural sector will continue to grow and provide greater economic benefits for the community, especially farmers.

The red onion harvest activity was also attended by the Chairwoman of TP PKK Deli Serdang, Ny Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, representatives of BUMD Bhinneka Perkasa Jaya, and several heads of relevant regional government agencies (OPD). (IDNC)
