DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government has called on the entire community to use the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 H as an important moment to improve personal character, strengthen unity, and enhance social responsibility in community life.
The appeal was conveyed by Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan through Assistant for Government and People's Welfare Affairs, Drs. Zainal Abidin Hutagalung MAP, during the commemoration of 1 Muharram 1448 H held by the Medan Estate Village Administration at Al-Istiqomah Mosque, located on Jalan Vetpur Utama, Dusun XI, Medan Estate Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
In the written address of the Regent delivered by Assistant I, it was stated that the Islamic New Year transition carries a much deeper meaning than merely a change of calendar. The occasion provides Muslims with an opportunity for self-reflection (Muhasabah), strengthening faith, improving morals, and increasing concern for the environment and fellow human beings.
"The wisdom of Hijra, as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad SAW, teaches us the courage to move toward better conditions in life. Hijra does not only mean moving from one place to another, but also transforming from bad habits into a more beneficial way of life, from division toward unity, from indifference toward care, and from individualism toward the spirit of mutual cooperation," he said.

Asri Ludin explained that the values of Hijra should serve as an inspiration for the community to continue developing Medan Estate Village and the entire Deli Serdang Regency. According to him, the success of regional development should not only be measured through infrastructure progress but also through improvements in moral values, character, and social relationships among residents.
The Deli Serdang Government continues to strengthen its commitment to realizing the vision of "Deli Serdang Sehat, Cerdas, Sejahtera, Religius dan Berkelanjutan" (healthy, educated, prosperous, religious, and sustainable). In achieving this vision, religious values serve as an important foundation in building a society that is faithful, harmonious, tolerant, and strong in character.
Asri Ludin also encouraged residents to maintain harmony in their surroundings by strengthening social bonds, revitalizing mosques and prayer rooms, guiding younger generations through Islamic values, and preserving the culture of mutual assistance in daily life.
"Let us make the Islamic New Year a starting point to strengthen unity, increase social responsibility, and work together to maintain security, order, and cleanliness in our surroundings, so that a peaceful and harmonious social life can be created," said Asri Ludin.
Asri Ludin emphasized that the spirit of Hijra remains highly relevant in today's social life. A transformation toward better conditions must begin with each individual and be realized through concrete actions that provide positive benefits for the community.
He stated that a society with a strong sense of social responsibility, community spirit, and environmental awareness would become an important force in supporting regional development.
Meanwhile, Head of the Government Section of Percut Sei Tuan District, Muhammad Yogie Adlin, said the Islamic New Year commemoration was an opportunity to strengthen faith while also building closer relationships among residents.
He expressed his appreciation to the Medan Estate Village Administration and the organizing committee for successfully holding the event. Religious activities, he said, are not only a means of spreading Islamic values but also a platform to foster friendship, social care, and community unity.
"Events like this are very important because they can bring people together in a spirit of togetherness. Besides strengthening religious values, they also provide space to deepen social relationships among residents," said Muhammad Yogie Adlin.

The commemoration of 1 Muharram 1448 H at Al-Istiqomah Mosque was held in a solemn and meaningful atmosphere. Residents participated in various activities, including religious lectures (Tausiyah) and collective prayers, as an expression of gratitude and to welcome the new Islamic year.
The event was also attended by representatives of the Coordination Forum for District Leadership (Forkopimcam) of Percut Sei Tuan, village heads from across Percut Sei Tuan District, the Medan Estate Village Head and staff, religious figures, community leaders, and worshippers of Al-Istiqomah Mosque.
Through this Islamic New Year celebration, the Deli Serdang Regency Government hopes that the community will continue strengthening the values of togetherness, maintaining harmony, and embracing the spirit of Hijra as a guide toward creating a better, safer, and more harmonious life. (IDNC)
