LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Road safety depends on the awareness and discipline of every road user. To reduce the risk of accidents and promote a culture of responsible driving, the Traffic Unit of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police has stepped up direct public education efforts as part of Operation Patuh Toba 2026.
The traffic safety awareness campaign (Dikmas Lantas) took place on Saturday, 7 November 2026, along Jalan Ahmad Yani in Kotapinang, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. Police officers urged members of the public to understand the importance of obeying traffic regulations, stressing that compliance is not simply about avoiding penalties but, more importantly, taking responsibility for their own safety and that of others. The traffic police team was led by Aipda Aidil Syah Putra, S.H., Head of the Traffic Safety Division (Kanit Kamsel) at Labuhanbatu Selatan Police. Officers engaged directly with residents and reminded motorists to follow the regulations, prioritise safety and respect the rights of other road users.
During the campaign, officers also explained Operation Patuh Toba 2026, which runs from 26 October to 8 November 2026. The operation provides an opportunity for the police to improve compliance with traffic regulations while strengthening public awareness of safe driving practices.
Officers warned against reckless driving and reminded motorists to carry the necessary vehicle documents and check that their paperwork was complete before setting off. Drivers must also hold a valid driving licence (SIM) and carry their vehicle registration certificate (STNK) in accordance with the applicable regulations.Motorcyclists were specifically reminded of their obligation to wear helmets bearing the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification mark. They were also urged to obey road signs, adjust their speed to road conditions and avoid actions that could endanger other road users.
Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., through Traffic Unit Head AKP Yustina, S.H., M.H., emphasised that Operation Patuh Toba 2026 was not solely intended to penalise traffic offenders. Its broader objective was to build a culture of road safety based on public awareness and personal responsibility."Road safety is our shared responsibility. We urge everyone to obey traffic regulations, avoid excessive speeding, carry complete vehicle documents and wear helmets bearing the SNI certification mark. Do not wait for an accident to happen before recognising the importance of safety," the police chief said through the Traffic Unit Head.
He added that everyone could contribute to safer roads through simple actions, including wearing helmets, obeying traffic signs and checking their vehicles before travelling.
Alongside road safety messages, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief also highlighted the importance of integrity, courage and dedication among police officers in carrying out their duties.
He stressed that policing was not merely about exercising authority but also about protecting the public and providing services that genuinely meet people's needs."Being a police officer is not simply about wearing a uniform and having authority. It is about responsibility, courage and dedication. When faced with major challenges, do not give up. When confronted with threats, do not be intimidated. When people need protection, be there for them and provide the best possible service," the police chief said in his message.
Officers also informed residents about the police emergency call centre, which can be reached by dialling 110. Members of the public were encouraged to use the service to request assistance, report disturbances to public order and security (Kamtibmas), or seek police intervention in emergencies. The 110 service provides a direct communication channel between the public and the police, enabling officers to receive reports and respond to incidents promptly. The initiative also aims to strengthen community participation in maintaining public safety.

He stressed that regular reminders about road safety were important because drivers were responsible not only for themselves but also for their passengers and other road users.
"These campaigns are very good. As drivers, we must always put safety first. It is not just about protecting ourselves but also our passengers and other road users. Messages like these remind us to be more disciplined and careful when driving," Sunarto said.He hoped the police would continue providing regular and accessible road safety information to strengthen public awareness of traffic regulations.
Through these initiatives, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Traffic Unit aims to encourage motorists to make safe driving a daily habit rather than simply complying when police officers conduct inspections.Road safety ultimately depends on discipline, mutual respect and individual responsibility. Obeying traffic regulations is not merely about avoiding fines; it is about protecting lives and preventing accidents. (IDNC)
