DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Deli Serdang Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo SS has called for stronger cooperation between the Deli Serdang Regency Government and the Deli Serdang National Narcotics Agency (BNNK) to prevent and combat drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
Lom Lom made the statement during a courtesy and introductory visit by the Deli Serdang BNNK to the Deli Serdang Regent's Office on Friday, August 14, 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen coordination between the regional government and the agency responsible for addressing drug-related issues in Deli Serdang Regency.During the meeting, Lom Lom welcomed the new head of BNNK Deli Serdang, Kombes Pol M Fadris Sangun Ratulana. He expressed hope that the leadership transition would not affect the close cooperation and unity that have been built between BNNK Deli Serdang and the Deli Serdang Regency Government.
Lom Lom emphasized that the Deli Serdang Regency Government was ready to continue working closely with BNNK Deli Serdang under Fadris' leadership. In his view, the existing cooperation needs to be further expanded so that measures to prevent and combat drug abuse can be implemented consistently.
"Welcome, and I wish you success in your duties at the Deli Serdang Regency BNN. What was built with the previous head can be continued and further improved," he said while receiving the BNNK delegation at the Regent's Office on Friday, August 14, 2026.Lom Lom views inter-agency cooperation as an important component in addressing the drug problem. The regional government, BNNK, and members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) each have their own responsibilities, which can complement one another in prevention, combating drug-related offenses, and law enforcement concerning drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The appointment of a new head of BNNK Deli Serdang therefore provides an opportunity to further strengthen existing coordination. The Deli Serdang Regency Government is open to broader cooperation with BNNK in implementing programs aimed at preventing drug abuse.
In addition to strengthening institutional cooperation, Lom Lom also proposed concrete preventive measures within the Deli Serdang Regency Government. One of these measures is urine testing for State Civil Apparatus (ASN).
He suggested that drug testing could become one of the requirements for ASN involved in certain administrative procedures, including competency assessments related to promotions. The proposal reflects the regional government's efforts to create a working environment for civil servants that is free from drug abuse."If necessary, our ASN should be required to undergo a urine test when, for example, they want to take part in a competency assessment for a promotion or participate in other procedures," he said.
According to Lom Lom, urine tests at certain stages of personnel management could serve as a preventive measure while also strengthening the commitment of civil servants to combating drugs. This would ensure that prevention efforts are not directed solely at society as a whole, but also begin within the government administration itself. The proposal also underscores the Deli Serdang Government's initiative to strengthen prevention through internal regulations. With the support of BNNK Deli Serdang, the regional government could intensify coordination on education, prevention, and early detection programs targeting drug abuse among civil servants.

Fadris reaffirmed this commitment following his reception by the Deli Serdang Government. As the new head of BNNK, he considers cooperation with the regional government and relevant institutions an important part of his duties in combating drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
"We hope that we can create synergies and work together with the Deli Serdang Regency Government and other Forkopimda agencies to combat illicit drug trafficking, drug abuse, and related law enforcement measures," he said.Fadris' statement underscores BNNK Deli Serdang's intention to continue cross-sectoral coordination in addressing the drug problem. The cooperation covers efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking, prevent drug abuse, and undertake law enforcement measures within the respective authorities of each institution.
The meeting between the Deli Serdang Regency Government and BNNK Deli Serdang also highlighted the importance of continued cooperation following the leadership transition at BNNK. The regional government hopes that the established partnership can be maintained and further developed through stronger coordination.Through the joint commitment of both sides, efforts to combat drugs in Deli Serdang are expected to focus not only on law enforcement, but also place greater emphasis on prevention. The government environment can play an important role in this effort, including through stronger internal regulations such as the proposed urine testing of ASN in certain procedures.
Cooperation between the Deli Serdang Regency Government, BNNK Deli Serdang, and Forkopimda will therefore remain an important component of joint efforts to combat drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking. This commitment is expected to ensure the continuity of drug prevention and eradication programs while strengthening the role of each institution in protecting the community.
