LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The development of artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly making its way into various aspects of daily life, including education. Amid the opportunities and challenges presented by this development, the Human Resources Division (SDM) of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police is equipping young people with knowledge on how to use AI wisely, safely and responsibly.
The training was held as part of a socialization session for the Artificial Intelligence Training of Trainers (TOT) program at SMK Yayasan Perguruan Kihajar Dewantara in Kotapinang Urban Village, Kotapinang District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency, on Friday, August 14, 2026.A total of 30 students took part in the event. Those in attendance included the Head of the Human Resources Division of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police, Kompol Dodi Nainggolan, S.H., M.H.; Head of the Personnel Development Sub-Section, Ipda Miko Siswoyo; Chairman of the YP Kihajar Dewantara Foundation, Naga Parlaungan Lubis, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Principal Rusmialdi Siregar; members of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police; teachers; and students.
The event was not merely aimed at introducing students to the latest technological developments. The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police also provided participants with an understanding of ethical considerations, safety, critical thinking and the responsibilities associated with the use of artificial intelligence.AI can help students find information, support the learning process, develop ideas and encourage creativity. However, using the technology still requires control and careful judgment from the user. Students need to understand that AI is a learning tool and cannot replace their own ability to think or their responsibilities as students.
"The younger generation must be able to keep pace with technological developments, including artificial intelligence. What matters is how this technology is used for positive purposes and not misused. That is why it is important to instill an understanding from an early age of how to use AI wisely, safely and responsibly," Kompol Dodi Nainggolan said.According to him, AI is changing the way students search for information, acquire knowledge and develop their creativity. However, the opportunities offered by the technology must be accompanied by the ability to verify information and assess the accuracy and usefulness of the results obtained.
Students must therefore continue to develop their critical-thinking skills. They should be able to evaluate information generated by AI rather than accepting every answer produced by the technology without verification. A critical approach is an important part of ensuring that AI contributes to the educational process while preventing habits that could undermine independent learning.
Principal Rusmialdi Siregar of YP Kihajar Dewantara welcomed the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police initiative to provide students with direct guidance on the use of AI. In his view, the event gives students additional knowledge about technological developments that are increasingly becoming part of their daily lives.
Rusmialdi expressed hope that the awareness program would go beyond merely introducing the technology and would also help students understand its benefits, limitations and risks. With this knowledge, students can use technology purposefully to support their learning and produce positive work and results."We are very grateful and welcome the visit by the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police to conduct this AI awareness program. We hope the students will be able to use the technology wisely, safely and responsibly," he said.
The school's appreciation demonstrates that building digital literacy requires the involvement of various stakeholders. Schools, as educational environments, play an important role in guiding students, while the police can provide a perspective on the safe and responsible use of technology in society.The collaboration is also an important step toward developing awareness among young people from an early age. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced understanding of artificial intelligence. Young people need to recognize both the benefits of AI and the potential negative impacts that can arise when technology is used without sufficient consideration.
"We hope that the students will understand in the future what is good and what is less beneficial when using AI, so that the technology can be used to support education and other positive activities," Ipda Miko Siswoyo said.The awareness session was conducted interactively in a safe and orderly atmosphere. Students were given an understanding that technological capabilities must go hand in hand with ethics and responsibility. The use of AI should likewise be directed toward activities that benefit the educational process and the development of students' abilities.
The message is increasingly relevant as young people are among the population groups most closely connected to digital technology. The various capabilities of AI can help them complete assignments, find references, develop ideas and learn new things. Nevertheless, students should use the technology appropriately so that their independence in learning is not compromised.AI literacy also includes awareness of protecting personal data and information. Students should exercise caution when entering information into AI-based services and understand that not all information generated by the technology can immediately be considered accurate. The ability to verify information is an essential skill amid the constantly expanding flow of digital information.
Through the event, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police demonstrated that the duties of the police extend beyond law enforcement and maintaining public security and order. Educating young people is also an important part of preparing society for the changes of the times.This educational approach also provides the police with an opportunity to strengthen dialogue with educational institutions. Direct engagement with students can help raise awareness of responsible technology use while encouraging the younger generation to adapt to technological developments.
