JAKARTA | INDATANEWS.COM - The Indonesian government has established the calendar of national holidays and collective leave days for 2027. The government has designated 18 national holidays and eight collective leave days, bringing the total number of official days off throughout the year to 26.
The decision is stipulated in a Joint Decree of Three Ministers (SKB Tiga Menteri), signed by Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, and Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Rini Widyantini. The three ministers signed the decree on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Kemenko PMK) in Jakarta.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno said the government had agreed on the holiday calendar. Most of the national holidays are related to religious celebrations and commemorative occasions.
"It has been agreed that there will be a total of 18 national holidays in 2027, most of which are religious holidays. In addition, there will be eight collective leave days in 2027," Pratikno said.
The government has established the holiday calendar well in advance so that the public and businesses can plan various activities throughout 2027. The early announcement provides greater certainty for travel, family activities, social events, and holiday arrangements.
For businesses, the calendar can serve as a basis for planning operational activities, workforce arrangements, distribution of goods, public services, and other business activities.
The establishment of national holidays is also related to labor regulations. Minister of Manpower Yassierli explained that workers and employees are generally not required to work on national holidays or official days off.
The regulation refers to Minister of Manpower Circular Letter No. M/6/HK.04/XII/2024. However, companies may require employees to work on national holidays if they are engaged in certain activities that must operate continuously.
"Employers may require workers to work on national holidays only if they are engaged in activities that must operate continuously," Yassierli said.
Under certain circumstances, companies may also continue their operations on national holidays based on a written agreement between employers and employees. If employees are required to work, companies must fulfill their labor-related entitlements in accordance with applicable regulations.
"Employers who require workers to work on national holidays are required to pay overtime compensation," he emphasized.
Yassierli also explained the difference between national holidays and collective leave days for employees. According to him, collective leave days form part of annual leave, and taking them is voluntary or optional.
Employees who take leave on a collective leave day will use part of their annual leave entitlement. Accordingly, their remaining annual leave entitlement will be reduced by the number of collective leave days they take.
Employees who continue working on a collective leave day, on the other hand, will not have their annual leave entitlement reduced. The company will also pay them their wages as it would on a regular working day.
"For employees who continue working on a collective leave day, their annual leave entitlement will not be reduced. They will be paid their wages as on a normal working day," he said.
These provisions are important for both employees and companies when preparing their 2027 work calendars. Companies must adjust their operations to national holidays and collective leave days, while employees can plan the use of their annual leave according to their personal needs.
