SAMOSIR | INDATANEWS.COM ~ Indonesia's Tourism Minister, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, visited Samosir Island on Thursday (April 16, 2026) to review several leading tourist destinations in the Lake Toba region.
The minister was welcomed at Sibea-bea Port in Harian District by Regent Vandiko Timotius Gultom, along with members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda).Read Also:
During the visit, the delegation toured several prominent attractions, including the area surrounding the Sibea-bea Jesus Statue, Waterfront City Pangururan, and Huta Siallagan, which is known for its historic stone chairs, locally referred to as "Batu Kursi Persidangan."
Commitment to Sustainable Tourism DevelopmentRegent Vandiko expressed appreciation for the central government's attention and presented a proposal to further develop the tourism sector in Samosir.
"We are grateful for the Tourism Minister's visit. Her presence is a great motivation for us to continue improving the quality of our tourism offerings," Vandiko said.
He reaffirmed the regional government's commitment to positioning the Lake Toba area as a world-class international destination.
"We will continue to enhance infrastructure and improve visitor services to ensure Samosir becomes a competitive global destination," he added.Exploring Natural and Cultural Attractions
As part of the visit, the minister enjoyed panoramic views from Sibea-bea Hill and attended a dancing fountain show at Waterfront City Pangururan.
In Huta Siallagan, she joined a traditional "Manortor" dance alongside the regent, accompanied by Gondang music. The minister also sat on the historic stone chairs once used by local rulers for deliberations and judicial proceedings.
She also interacted with residents and tourists, taking time to engage in conversations and distribute small gifts.Strengthening Samosir's Tourism Position
The visit is expected to reinforce Samosir's position as one of the leading tourist destinations in the Lake Toba region, which continues to gain recognition as an emerging international travel hotspot.The event was attended by several local officials, including deputy parliament speakers, regional legislative members, representatives of law enforcement and judiciary institutions, as well as senior regional government officials.
